The whole premise was kind of silly and slightly boring. It was my first Tommy and Tuppence, and after this I think I’ll stick with my Poirot and Marple. I still just love reading anything Agatha Christie.

I enjoyed this book - it was obvious what the reveal would be, but not who it would be and I kept changing my mind up to the last. However, I think I still prefer Poirot and Marple. This felt a bit more childish - kind of like reading a teenage version of The Famous Five. But I love The Famous Five, so I guess that's no bad thing. I won't go out of my way to look for the rest of this series, but will definitely pick them up if I see them. A nice easy read.
I enjoyed reading Agatha Christie again. I had forgotten how much I enjoy her use of language and her style of writing. I downloaded The Secret Adversary to my new Kindle and, I'm not sure if I like the Kindle. I think I will try one more book on it before making a decsion.

Tommy and Tuppence are old friends who find themselves strapped for cash after the Great War. They decide to go into business for themselves and form the Young Adventurers, Ltd. They will “do anything, go anywhere” and “no unreasonable offer refused” which just goes to show how desperate they are for steady income.
Tommy and Tuppence are an unlikely pair of friends, but how many friendships are actually like that? Probably most of them, I’d say. My observation of nearly 57 years is that we tend to choose friends who complement ourselves, so that we make a more well-rounded contribution to society. Although there are plenty of friendships where the people are like two peas in a pod. In any case, Tommy and Tuppence are like the first set of friends. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. Good thing, too because they soon find themselves nearly over their head in secrets, conspiracies, and murder. Yikes.
The story is well-written and the mystery kept me guessing until the end. A great tale indeed! I look forward to more T & T adventures!
Nói chung thì cuốn này cũng được. Tommy và Tuppence dễ thương.

Tommy and Tuppence are the most adorable, dramatic duo ever! While this is the first of their adventures I've read I think I can tentatively say they might just be my favourite Christie characters. While I had an idea of who the "villain" of this mystery was, Agatha Christie still managed to surprise and enthrall me. That's why she is the Queen.
It is STUNNING to me that this was first published in 1922. 1922! I believe it was the second book Christie published in her prolific writing life. It is an ambitious title - lots of action, and numerous characters. It is the first in the Tommy and Tuppence series, which was only 5 books.
Tommy and Tuppence are just friends. They've known each other for quite some time and when they meet to catch up they discover that both are broke...and perhaps there's a spark of chemistry between them. They decide to begin a business together in an attempt to climb out of the pit of poverty they believe themselves to be in. They call themselves the Young Adventurers Ltd. - "willing to do anything, go anywhere." To their amazement, they are hired right away! But the assignment is mysterious and unsettling and leads to many dangerous places and people. Was this a good idea? Are Tommy and Tuppence cut out for the detectives' life?
As I said, this was an ambitious title. Kudos to Christie for all the action, characters, and storylines BUT. But it felt a little...disjointed, rushed, too much for me. I had a really hard time keeping track of who was where and who was doing what and who was who! Despite that, I did enjoy getting to know the origin story, of sorts, of Tommy and Tuppence whom I like very much. I also was truly astonished that Christie crafted such a story back in 1921-1922, it feels (in my opinion) very up to date, not at all outdated.
