This was okay, not my favorite book. I got more interested in the second half of the book.
i am more proud of myself for figuring out whodunit (or i guess i should say who the mysterious mr brown was) right from the jump than i am for finishing this book. this is book two for my personal project on reading all the agatha christie mysteries in order of publication.
i did like tommy and tuppence a lot but i wasn’t really interested in the central subject matter of the mystery so it was kind of boring in some parts. to me, the red herrings were much easier to pick out and i feel like it kind of shows that christie was still figuring out her craft at that point. also random, but the fade to black in the final reveal was so weird??? anyway, i’m excited to start murder on the links now especially because it’s back to hercule poirot!

I can't believe I've never read this series! A great first installment.
i almost solved this one!!! i knew it had to be one of the two-- Julius or Sir James-- but chose the wrong one. good twist, christie! it was a very good book all the same. i liked the intertwining plot lines and the historical intrigue.

After some of the heavy reading I’ve done earlier this year it was lovely to dive into a cozy mystery. I love the main character Tuppence and her sensible thoughts and clever ideas and I loved seeing the friendships grow throughout the book. Halfway through I did think that I’d solved the mystery but the last bit threw me for some fun loops. I’d definitely read another in this series!!
I read this over winter break. It was very entertaining. I love Agatha Christie. The characters really have held up well in the decades since the book was written. Tuppence is a very strong woman as are other female characters.
