The Anomaly is a very weird sci fi thriller that starts very slowly then takes a right turn into Wild. This thriller was reminiscent of many other popular thrillers (Jurassic park, Indiana Jones, etc.) and even references the source material in the book, so the author isn’t denying he’s using some old but good tropes here.

I was very confused through a lot of this, and you kinda just have to shrug and go with it or you’re not gonna have a good time. If logic is something that you need in a story I wouldn’t pick this one up because none of it is logical. I wanted a fun fast paced thriller with some archaeology and this book delivered so I enjoyed it well enough but it didn’t stand out much to me. I enjoyed the archaeological mysteries and how weird this one got but I see how this could be disliked by a different reader looking for more substance.

BIG fan of this book, exactly what I was looking for in found footage/ camera crew horror!

I honestly am not sure how I feel about this book which is is why I rated it 3 stars. It’s got serious Indiana Jones vibes but like if Indiana Jones was a little crazy, not a real archaeologist and had a YouTube web series.
My curiosity made me keep reading and it was pretty action packed but it felt like the explanation of what was happening was a little out there. Maybe that was the point?

Had a hard time getting into it at first, but once they finally made it to the cave, I could barely put the book down.

This book was intriguing, but had an annoying narrative style, perhaps due to the pretentiousness of the central character. Plot-wise, it was fine, but the pacing was negatively impacted by some overlong interior monologues that I found distracting and unnecessary. That said, I was more invested after the halfway point, so will consider picking up the next book in the series when I'm in the specific mood this kind of book requires.

I enjoyed this. The premise, plot and characters were unique and interesting. Quite a fun read with some fast paced action.

SO. MUCH. FUN. I love Nolan and would watch his shitty YouTube series.
