This is one of the best ones so far. I kept guessing until the end how it was going to end and there were some real plot twists along the way. Harry Dresden gets a visit from his old flame half-vampire girlfriend Susan (!) and her boss-in-the-South-American-vampire-wars Martin who tells him that he 1) has an 8-year-old daughter named Maggie and 2) She's been kidnapped by the Red Court. Sides keep changing, and it's hard for him to get any real support from the organizations he runs with normally; also he's being framed for several crimes in Chicago, things he doesn't have time to deal with. By the end of the book, things are going to be very different - not just for Harry - but for the world as a whole.
9.3/10 - Exceptional
Second Read-Review: A few years have passed and I listened to this book on audio. First off, everyone is right about the audio book narrator, he was amazing. Second, this book deserves a definite 5-stars, with some of the absolute best plot-work and emotional gut-punching in the series. The best book yet in Dresden Files (1-15), can't wait to continue the journey!
Original Review: Similar to Dresden Files #11, "Changes" is epic and action-packed from the get-go. All the set up storylines started to come into place, a wide-variety of characters took part in the action, and more than any book so far the setting and events of the book took a major turn. I knew going into this book (thanks to an unfortunate spoiler) that this was the major turning point of the series, but I didn't realize that basically EVERYTHING was going to change. Also, the ending was amazing. I knew the spoiler ahead of time yet it still caught me off guard. This was a very well done book, can't wait to start the next one.

A wild ride of a read. If I'd not read the 11 books preceding this one, I'd not have liked the "everything but the kitchen sink" aspect of it. But I did read those and the spare use of outrageous magic in the previous books made this one glorious in it's over the top campiness. Wish I could say more, but I would have to be sure you've read these too first.

You know it's a good book when it leaves you feeling stunned and wrung out at the end, yet still totally jazzed and simultaneously ticked that you now have to wait for the next one, because you were the moron that read it all in a day instead of drawing it out to make it last a little longer.
Really, the only way I can describe it is fucking EPIC.
EPIC.

Butcher surprised me - there were points that I genuinely did not see coming. For a series that's been going as long as this one, it's still very, very good.
The title is very accurate. This book upsets the status quo of the previous novels in a big way, really seeing the pay-off of several character arcs. The novels just keep getting better!
