Titled after the mythical sculptor who fell in love with his own creation, Pygmalion is about a phonetics expert named professor Higgins who adopts a poor flower girl named Eliza Doolittle to polish up her manners and speech. Sounds somewhat familiar?..."the rain in Spain falls mainly..," yup, My Fair Lady is a well known adaptation of this very play.

However, it isn't a kind heart which leads Higgins into this venture, but rather it is his vanity which awakens in him a desire to prove to himself and others he can make anyone into anything. Of course, Shaw isn't content with a straightforward adaptation of the myth, but he throws in a twist which ended up becoming hotly debated. In fact, it was contested so much that the ending was subject to changes which angered Shaw greatly, and it's likely your printed edition contains an epilogue addressing this. As for the rest of it, this play glides along smoothly. Pygmalion is an excellent choice for a reader who wishes to remain at ease while being entertained, for it is consistently funny, lighthearted, and charming.

found out that this book is what originated “Ello’ governor” and honeslty a fake silly British accent is the best way I’d sum up this story

Higgins is the worst and I am glad they don't actually end up together.
