The first half of the book was quite good but, in its entirety, it fell short. Some of the relationships (Sarah/Lawrence) are odd and may have been a bit more concise if written as a short story.

This is a tough, tough book. It's very well-written. I admire the author for giving this story and these women (even if they are fictional) a voice. I did wonder about a man writing this very female voice, but it seemed pretty balanced.
Definitely not for the faint of heart or sensitive reader. Violence and profanity throughout.

I read it for a school assignment. I think that it was okay, I wish there was more in time for characters to develop but I like that they made a character be a dick
I think I am completely alone in this, but I found this book to be odd and not a wonderful book to read. I struggled to get through it and once I did, I was disappointed!
There was so much hype around how extraordinary this book is, and yet it was such a let down. I never found myself connected to the characters, I found it completely unbelievable that Little Bee was simply arrested for standing there when the police arrived to help find Charlie, and words cannot describe how completely frustrating and annoying I found Sarah to be as a mother, a wife, and most of all as a woman. Truly in what universe do you take your 4 year old son to place that changed the entire course of your life forever with terror and pain, and just assume that he will be safe and protected, that armed soldiers will not start shooting at him down the beach? Unbelievable. In addition, I found nothing hilarious about this story and I think the editor and book jacket did the story a disservice by the way in which it is spun.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I have had a copy for a long time and finally picked it up. It is a quick read and caused me a few tears.
Heartbreaking. Worth reading to learn about the plight of African refugees, although I was left unsatisfied at the end of this particular story.
I'm not sure how to feel about this book. The writing is skillful and the characters are interesting. But the horror and the racism and the unresolveable realities ...
