Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It started off a little slow since there was so much detail about the intricacies of the music but it really picked up once Eboni and Bern began to uncover the mystery behind Frederic Delaney and Josephine Reed. Although the story is fiction, it resonates since Josephine Reed’s story is one that has been experienced by so many Black people throughout history. Themes covered include: racism, power, money, classism, etc. Would highly recommend! I look forward to reading this author’s first novel.

This book does a fantastic job of showing how a person seeking power can transform into a person they never thought they’d be, and the lengths they will go to to silence anyone who gets in their way. The story kept me interested from page one, and gave me a lot to think about.

It was overall a good book. A little long and drawn out at times, but I enjoyed the plot. Expect *somewhat* unexpected twist at the end.

This author continues to blow me away with his work. This one had a bit of a slow start for me but I QUICKLY became invested in the story. He explores themes of greed, power, emotional abuse/controlling behavior, and racism and he does it SO WELL. I love the musical incorporation into his stories, it takes me back to my orchestra/band days. I will be reading everything this author puts out.

i LOVED this book. the title is a little basic so i when i started it i was wondering where the book was going and how it was going to fill the story being over 400 pages. but it is so worth it. you know how you have to close the book and squeal or just take a break for a minute sometimes? during tense or anticipatory parts? my kid and my partner saw me doing that and showed interest so i ended up summarizing the story for them every few chapters. they hounded me to finish so they could know what happened. highly recommend.
