Ava is a mother to Hailey and Maddox. She is heading back to Black Claw, Colorado. Unfortunately, this town has some of her best memories and worst. She is running to a new beginning from Hailey's dad, her now ex-husband. But Maddox's dad kinda disappeared on her, or so it seems. Her relationships seem to be a bit of a cluster.
We also get Maverick's point of view, her ex, and the father to Maddox. I'm assuming he is also her first love. He is a dragon shifter and the town sheriff. He also lives up the road from Ava and still misses her.
Small towns mean you are bound to run into each other, and how do they collide unexpectedly. I love how this develops slowly with courage, honesty, and happiness prioritized. This book ends happily, and I love the cliffhanger that leads you to the next book. I can't wait to read it.

A lite, easy read
A lite, easy read that’s entertaining. The story is well paced and flows well. The dragon family dynamic was interesting and not something I’d read before in shifter books.

So I have just read this for the third time and while I stand by everything I said in my first review (below) I feel I had to up the rating to 4 stars as, despite the flaws I obviously find this a comfort read. It is so easy to read and when I'm really tired its nice to just pick up something spectacularly predictable and simple!
3.5 stars
This was a really fun read. Weirdly my biggest complaint is that there wasn't enough tension. Normally I love when a couple has good communication and little drama between them but in this case it just didn't feel realistic.
Maverick just disappeared on Ava and when they met again 18 years later she was cross but barely and just forgave it all. Which is lovely, but the ease with which it all happened just didn't feel honest. Then they had a big fight over a simple misunderstanding and the contrast in the two reactions was just not consistent.
I did really enjoy the story. It's simple world building and gentle storytelling. But a nice gentle filler book.

Lowkey annoyed by this book but it is what it is.
The plot - this is a fated mates, dragon shifter, single mom small town romance. Smut was like a 1.5/5 on the spice scale. It is a HEA in a series of interconnected standalones. Look, it was wank for me, it was a drag and boring up until 70% and then suddenly the book was amazing and great… bit disappointed really but cannot be helped. May read book 2, unsure.
The characters - if it helps at all, all of the characters are well developed, with individual personalities and intriguing aspects that make you want to read more. I liked them a lot, I just wish they weren’t part of a plot so mediocre.

I was really impressed with this read.
I got absorbed into the shifter romance and went on a reading binge. I guess the title left a little something missing but the author didn't miss anything in this story. I am looking forward to continuing with the series and what else this author has to offer.
