For Lucy

Jewel E. Ann

4.28 AVERAGE

Julie E Ann’s writing is not doing it for me anymore. She has good plots but the way she’s executing them is getting on my nerves. The last few books that I read of hers, all of them contain cheating. And I hate it. Unnecessary angst. The emotional aspect of the story kinda gets lost in her fast paced and witty writing. Sooooo I’m afraid this is the last straw for me. Not picking her books anymore.

As for this book, I didn’t get the connection between the MCs from the beginning. That insta love and fun and flirty relationship is not my thing. So I was not invested in their relationship. I didn’t feel that deep love so I didn’t feel sorry for their current state.

Also, how can this woman hate her husband for so long? Punish him like this? Even if it was his fault, how could she demean his pain at the loss of their child? Proves that she never loved him in the first place.

And yes, at first I rated this book 2 but now I’m lowering it to 1 because cheating is a big no no for me.

Getting a 5-star review from me these days is like drawing water from a stone. For Lucy, though, had me captivated from Chapter One, and I knew in my soul that I was on the road to 5 stars.

I have not found another author who can dredge up the depth of emotions in me as Jewel E. Ann. When my heart wasn’t gripped tightly in the palm of her hand it was lodged in my throat. There are no words to describe how acutely poignant and profound this book is. Yes, there are romantic and delightfully charming moments (the meet cute is enchanting), but primarily there are difficult subject matters to address between two people who love each other deeply.

Who can measure up to Emmett? Nobody, I tell you. I adored everything about him. I loved Emmett’s wry sense of humor, his ability to hold his tongue instead of lashing out, and the ease with which he puts his wife and daughter before everything else. I was a teensy bit jealous of Tatum. She has a 24-hour handyman who doesn’t need a Honey Do List to get stuff done. I kid, I kid! Sort of. Even though he was determined to hold onto his role as martyr, I couldn’t help but respect him and his massive heart.

Tatum is an extremely complex lady, and honestly I didn’t like her very much most of the time. But I came to understand her thought process, which was key to accepting her. Her decisions come from a place of pain, preservation, and love, not maliciousness.

Lucy is pure sunshine, and I laughed at her attempts to make her dad happy. She is wise beyond her years.

For Lucy is not a simple story. Nobody is completely right nor 100% wrong. These are flawed characters, and I still find myself analyzing their actions from different angles. This tale of love, loss, sacrifice, and blame has lingered with me and left my heart full. And aren’t those some of the greatest compliments you can give an author?

Oh, this love hurts. This gorgeous, selfless, rough-hewn hero might possibly love too hard, too profoundly, too perfectly. But boy oh boy, you'll love him with equal intensity.
This sexy second-chance romance is a deep, tragic pool of FEELS. It will make you so angry and so worked up and fall so madly in love you won't be the same in the end. I highly recommend it to all romance readers.

Another great listen by Jewel E Ann. This story was full of love, heartbreak & remorse. Emmett & Tatum struggled so much. Glad they got their HEA! Excellent narration by Connor Crais.

Oh holy cow did Jewel E. Ann take you on one hell of an emotional ride. This story was one that was heartfelt, heartbreaking, heartwarming, tragic all in one. It was written in both present time and included flashbacks. The flashbacks add this incredible depth to the story that gives you the details for how it all started and what led the characters to where they were presently. Jewel E. Ann knows just the way to weave her words in a way that made you FEEL them. There were moments where I just sat with lumps in my throat and tears in my eyes. The angst was SO real.

I read another book of the author's prior to this one. Being my first read with this author I had a few things I couldn't decided how I felt after finishing it. So I tried another. Almost the same thing. I can't put my finger on it. On one hand, I like how I am interested, banter, reads easy, entertained, etc. On the other hand, there seems to be so much emotional drama that could almost be scaled back a bit. In both reads, this writer aimed to play with your emotions..which I am not sure is my thing. I may revisit her again some other time. Do I regret these reads? No. Am I irritated at several things when done reading? Yes.

Also, I hated the main female character in this book. Woofta. She is so undeserving of the main male character.

I loved this book. It was heartbreaking and gut wrenching and I ate it up. I was probably bawling through the majority of it. But I have a soft spot with anything to do with parents and kids who are close. The love the Emmett has for his daughter Lucy is just it’s indescribable limitless. And this is told from his pov which was very interesting. You don’t normally see an entire book written from the mmcs pov and I actually loved it. You do get the dual timeline which is always a favorite of mine. This would’ve gotten probably a 4.5 star if it wasn’t for Tatum. I just wanted to give her a little smack and have a little chat. Just some outside advice. A different perspective. But this book was worth all the frustration I feel towards her.
