I wish some of his descriptions of women were kinder. There is a portion where he describes a female victim of DV from the perspective of a law enforcement officer and it's so hateful.

look is it horrible ? Not exactly would I have finished it if it wasn’t an audiobook on x3 speed? Maybe not. So the book is really about a couple things, namely the way horror transcends to the mundane if you let it, with a little of the horror of a longing for the past and the grief that come with it. But then what is grief but the horror of the mundane? The slow inevitability we all face in death? BUT the surface story is oooooo a not car portal that’s evil. Ish. So. Uh. Read it if you have nothing more exciting to read on a plane but you can probably skip it

From a Buick 8. After reading reviews, I had been putting off this read for quite some time. I’m currently halfway through the dark tower series and want to read as many books that are intertwined with the series and this was on the list so I went for it.
I have to say it’s not terribly bad as some have described, no it is not a top King book. But I enjoyed the sections where things actually happened with the car. Might be just me but I didn’t feel this book was as descriptive or built the world as well as other works by King.
How does it all tie with the Dark Tower? It’s not as direct as some other works such as heart in Atlantis or BlackHouse. But I think the Buick was the same as the cars from little men in yellow coats. Not exactly but I got that vibe after reading about the car and the way the man in black just disappeared and left the car. The creatures didn’t necessarily sound the same as some in the dark tower series but I can see them coming from the blasted lands or another world because as we know, there are other worlds than these.

This was the book that made me realize that Stephen King novels are a thing that some people can grow out of. I'll give him props for not setting the thing in Maine this time, but in a way that reminded me of Orson Scott Card's Lost Boys, the action King's really known for doesn't actually get going until the very end of the book. Essentially, From a Buick 8 is a long, meandering slog that makes its 350-odd pages seem much longer than it actually is. I'll give King credit for ending a book about unresolved loose ends it was possibly the boldest thing about this story. The was also surprisingly effective, and I'm going to attribute that to how low the rest of the book leading up to it had set the bar for my expectations. Unless you're either a diehard motorhead, a diehard King fan, or you're from Pennsylvania, I'd skip this one.
