I dont really have a lot to say about “From a Buick 8” other than to say it wasnt for me. I wanted to love it -like I love every other SK book - but I dont know. I found myself very bored and annoyed by Ned, that probably has something to do from reading it from Sand’s POV.
In the realm of Stephen King, this one was just ok. I didn’t hate it, but I can see why no one mentions this one in their lists of favorite SK. Like other King novels, this one deals with grief, loss of a family member, weird supernatural happenings, some vaguely gross writing about women (IYKYK), and the dog of course dies because they always do. I’m beginning to wonder if King secretly hates dogs. I don’t think this particular novel is very original, since King already has a killer car novel (Christine), a much better and creepier meditation on grief (Pet Semetary), and more detailed explorations of other realms (Fairy Tale and Dark Tower, for example). So really, this just feels like leftover bits from other, better books of his.
I was so excited to read this book and it was honestly such a let down. Stephen King is guilty of overwriting and I think with this book this is him at his worst. For 356 pages the majority of the book is just cops rambling about this creepy car they have that may or may not have led to the disappearance of an officer. A majority of this book is them talking about seeing bright lights coming from this car.......356 fucking pages of stories about bright lights. The only reason I gave this book two stars was because the ending is pretty good, other than that this book is a god damn snorefest.
The beginning of this book was difficult to get into, but about 1/3 of the way thru I got really into it and read it quickly and loved it!
It's weird and different than other books which I loved
