I don’t know why this book doesn’t get better reviews. There’s something special about FaB8 that is special, the only other King book that I can think of that gives the same type of satisfaction like this is his book Revival (another book that I think is very underrates).

Buick is not about a car at all, though if you glanced at the cover you’d think it’s supposed to be a Christine knockoff. Buick is about trying to describe the unknowable. It’s a story that is supposed to be hard to picture because that’s the whole point. “Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction can never really bring it back...”

Kurt says in the book, “It was the horror of trespass.” I love that because there’s something profoundly unsettling and hateful about the terrible things we encounter. Like a spider coming out of a shower drain we recoil and just kill it because it’s too horrible and alarming to be in such a place that it can not belong, never mind the fact that the spider simply was trying to escape the dark of a drain. We hate the horrible things that just don’t belong.

I don’t think there’s a lesson in any of that but I think this book speaks to some base instinctual truth in people.

I’d recommend FaB8 to anyone, it’s that good. Maybe his best book in some ways. I read this when I was in high school and thought it was great and I somehow appreciate it even more now 10 years later. Not all of King’s are winners in fact maybe most of them are below average but occasionally he writes above himself and I think Buick is one of those.

Another Stephen King book down, and I really dug this one.  It was simple and creepy…and sometimes that is all it takes.  But what really struck me is the camaraderie built across this cast of characters as they vow to guard and observe the otherworldly Buick in the shed behind the precinct.  Because of this, when it really does hit the fan, I really worried about their well-being.  Not a common feeling in horror novels.  There is still a lingering dread in the back of my mind with this one, which is why I know this was a great book!

3.5 stars. A short book that kept me glued to the page. Not King's best, but pretty good.

Toen ik begon met dit boek

Honestly, that was pretty good. There was a mystery, there was father/son surrogate fathers/son drama, male bonding etc. Some death, some unexplained things happening, a decent ending.

I listened to it in two days while prepping yarn and knitting a shawl.
