A must read for everyone and anyone!! We can all learn how to do better ALWAYS. Schuyler does a great job of approaching this topic delicately and openly shared his experience as a trans man and openly trans athlete.
Surprisingly entertaining for a boon whose purpose is to be informative! As a trans person, I intend to offer this book as a resource to people in my life

Very informative thought provoking book. The author guides you in re-evaluating your perceptions of gender identity and societal gender roles. He provided a lot of personal anecdotes which I feel like helps readers understand the struggles faced by transgender individuals. I appreciated the effort put in as well, with sources cited to go with facts. He hit most of the major arguments people come up with against transgender people and their rights, which will definitely be helpful for allies trying to educate others. I found myself wishing for more citations at times where the author didn't provide but that's something I can easily research on my own.

If you are not trans, you should read this book. (As a trans person, I also enjoyed it!)
I think that if you dive into this book expecting it to be a memoir you might find it disappointing. While Bailar inserts anecdotes from his story at the beginning of most chapters and interspersed throughout the book, they are mainly illustrative. This is not a bad thing. Where the book really shines is as a sort of primer on what it means to be transgender and how that might apply to someone as a transgender individual or as an ally. (Frankly I see this more as a book for allies, although I think it could also be good for people newly considering their identity and just attempting to learn more.)
I will admit that I skimmed this book, only immersing myself in certain parts. I think the book functions well in that regard. There may be portions that feel less applicable, whether because they are things you've already learned, or simply don't feel relevant at the moment. It's okay to focus your energy on reading the parts that will benefit you and the transgender people in your life the most.
Because of the ability of the book to be split into distinct sections, I think it functions amazingly well as an educational resource that keeps things on a very understandable level. I would absolutely recommend. I also thing that it is written at a level that is accessible to high school students at the least, and possibly also upper middle school. It's obvious that Schuyler is used to speaking to and answering questions from young people, and whether by direct decision or not, the language is skewed towards simplicity.

I read this book because I've followed Schuyler on Instagram for a while and find him really helpful and informative on trans issues, and I wanted to learn more. There is a lot of information, science and statistics in here, as well as anecdotes from Schuyler and other trans people about their lived experiences. I learned a lot from this book and it will definitely help me to be a better ally in future. Thanks Schuyler!
