I went into this not fully knowing what to expect aside from the summary itself, but this story just grabbed me and I LOVED IT. I didn't want it to end, and now I CANNOT wait for the next story in the series!

I think what I loved most was the characters. They had depth and were intriguing (There's SO much more I want to know about Quentin! And Laurence, too, but I really want more about Quentin's past and if they can get his abilities under even better control) and I loved all their moments of interaction. I really loved Laurence's mom and how she did what she could for her son and Quentin. It did take me a while to adjust to Quentin's way of speaking, he speaks of himself as "one would," and "one does not" and so on. But it became very natural for him once I got used to it. And he was a bit arrogant and looked down on Americans at the beginning, but I love how Laurence brought him into everyday "commoner" life!

Also, this is like...text book definition of "slow burn" - there's no sex, and they only kiss twice! But I didn't really miss it (although I eventually NEED these two to have their first time together OMG) and there are so many sweet, touching moments between Laurence and Quentin.

This ends with a HFN, but one that I feel like is very solid for Laurence and Quentin, and a nice bit of a tease for what I assume will be explored more in the next book. (Hopefully in August!).

If you can handle a book that is a zero on the sex, but high on plot, world building, and character growth, I would recommend this for sure!

Full disclosure: AK Faulkner and I are Twittter buds so I'm inclined to review their books favorably. Fortunately for them, even if we weren't Twitter buds I'd be inclined to review this book favorably anyway. It's the kind of soft gay urban fantasy romance that I like.

Specifically, I like the urban fantasy that ties into celtic mythology. For some reason that always resonates with me even though my ancestry is Scandinavian and Ashkenazi Jew. Don't get me wrong, I like those mythologies, too, but the Celtic ones are the ones that I cut my teeth on growing up. Well, that and Egyptian mythology. But I digress. The point is that AK is tickling my funnybone here and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Especially if The Morrigan shows up. Please tell me she shows up.

What's really notable about this book is how it portrays a romance where one partner is sex repulsed. Having ace representation in a romance novel is very, very, very rare, and this is handled with utmost care and delicacy. The romance itself is a cozy, slow burn; comfortable like a warm blanket on a cold night. It takes its time and builds slowly, giving the characters plenty of breathing room to grow into each other. I've read way too many romance books that just use 'romance' as an euphemism for 'sex' and just kinds of forgets about the romance part. This doesn't. It's very much a romance book for the romance.

The only fault that I really have with the book is that there aren't any lesbians. Sorry, AK. Gonna have to dock you a star for that. Go read this book. Four stars.

Meh, is all I can really say. It wasn't terrible, but I definitely didn't feel like continuing on to the second book.

Psychics

Laurence is a troubled young man, bogged down by visions failures, and a nasty drug addiction. Quentin has come to San Diego in an attempt to outrun his past, his family, and himself. When their paths cross, the men are immediately drawn to each. Add in a stalker ex-lover, 2 uncontrolled powers, and the dubious attention of a vengeful god, and Laurence and Quentin must make some difficult decisions about their lives and each other.

This book is great, that I couldn't put it down, something in the story line kept me reading to see what happens next. I think a word for this book is unique. Laurence is an addict who happened to have od'd 3 years ago. He works in a florist shop with his mother. They both have a the gift of being psychic, but Laurence is still figuring his out.
Quentin had moved to San Diego 2 weeks ago from London. Still to explore he sets out for the museums. Which Laurence and Bunbury aka Quentin met at the park. Quentin has powers of his own but seems oblivious to them seeing them as strange weather occurrences. The story wouldn't be without a evil being but you'll need to read this to find out about him.

I'm so glad I made the responsible financial decision to buy the first six novels in this series because I need more immediately!!!!
(proper review to follow, maybe)

I wasn't quite sure about this story, especially because of how it jumped around at first. Were they memories? Were they just dreams? But then we get to see how Laurence meets Quentin and Jack, and it definitely take off from then. So hang in for the first 50 pages or so. It will be worth it.

Even after finishing it, there are still mysteries as to exactly what Laurence and Quentin can do, what potential is there for them, what happened to Quentin in the past, and their HFN. All of that just makes me want to find out, so the next book in the series has already been downloaded.
