I was really looking forward to diving into this all new mafia world.
The prologue brought on some intrigue, and in the chapters that were of the past, detailing when Katie met Rome, Sebastian, and Cade, it was immediately clear that she and Rome had chemistry.
Katie did what she needed to make sure her father had what he needed, and I completely understood that. When it continued, albeit for different reasons, she began making petty comments to Rome that I felt were unnecessary and childish. Katie tried to portray herself as strong enough to stand beside the made men as an equal, but she never displayed characteristics that made me believe she should have that right.
Rome is an enforcer of the mafia. There were times I liked his character, he did have some characteristics of a possessive alpha, but some of the moments fell flat.
As the story goes, the chemistry they shared waned, especially since their actions showed no indication of the chemistry that had been so palpable the first time they met.
Overall, I ended up not caring what happened between them because even after all their pettiness, and the waning chemistry, I had hoped a new sort of relationship between them would build without the toxic behavior.
I can really see the potential in this book, in the storyline and with the characters, but in some of their actions and interactions the chemistry I had previously felt between them was smothered, and therefore affected my view of them throughout the rest of the book.

Katie was raised in the world of the Italian Mob and when she loses her father, it’s the life she continues to lead. Katie used her body as bait to get men to spill their secrets and when those secrets put her in danger, the one person who wants nothing to do with her is the one to come and save her. Rome Antenelli is the enforcer and second hand man in the family. The monster in which the family relies on. He can’t afford distractions but when Katie is in danger, nothing can pull him away.
I’ve read only a few mafia stories but this one was so gripping I couldn’t put it down! Katie is a fierce and strong fmc who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is and does what she wants. Rome is a “monster” with a heart of gold. Their chemistry is tangible and undeniable. The plot is intriguing and captivating. I can’t wait to continue their story in book 2!!

This book was full of angst, lies, betrayals, Steam…it seriously had it all. Katie is fierce and fighting her own demons while trying to soothe the monster that Rome thinks he is. One second the Steam and attraction is off the charts then the push/pull between Rome and Katie is so frustrating but in a good way. There is so many secrets, twists, turns, that will have on the edge of your seat dying to know what will happen next and that ending!?! Wow can’t wait to see what journey the author has for these characters because it will be intense.
