Shain is a new author to me and I'm definitely a fan! I stayed up all night reading this and I couldn't get enough. If you like dark, twisted, angsty romances then I highly recommend giving this a shot!

This is a dark mafia romance and book one of Katie and Rome's story. Their chemistry was explosive and I adored both characters. Katie is a strong and badass FMC and Rome is a deliciously possessive MMC. Both are broken souls who find solace in one another and Shain did a remarkable job of weaving their stories together and pulling out all the emotions. I cannot wait to see how things play out for them in the next book!

Shain is one of my favorite authors, I am never disappointed when it comes to her writing especially her mafia books. She knows how to write morally grey men. This is one of my favorite duets.

Trigger Warnings include:
child sex trafficking, murder, torture

This book ends on a cliffhanger!

Katie and Rome crossed paths as teenagers, and it cemented them in each others’ lives. When she (finally) becomes a permanent part of Rome’s life, he has to fight every urge to know every piece of Kate inside and out. Rome is the head of the family’s right hand man, the enforcer, happily the lone wolf. Which he knows is a recipe for disaster when it comes to Katie being in his path; Katie knows it too. There is definitely nonstop drama between them, within the family. The back and forth, the fighting over emotions became a little much for me. Especially when sex got tossed into the mess. I was literally rooting for Bastain to take the reigns…and it did definitely try! Kate drove me bonkers. I understood where Rome was coming from. He knew he would just continue to taint her and had the power to destroy her, which he wanted to avoid. But she was entirely too prideful, ignorant at times. Rome and Bastain gave her multiple opportunities to make her choice, let her have all her dreams. But that pride of hers just took control. Maybe one day, I’ll find the urge to read Rome and Katie’s HEA. But for now, I’m okay with sitting in the unknown.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “I will break you. And I won’t put you back together.”
• “My blood is your blood. I bleed, you bleed.”
• “No man but me should ever be touching you.”
• “This part of you belongs to me.”
• “You’re beautiful. So beautiful you could stop the world.”
• “I’m yours and you’re mine.”
• “You may own every part of me now, but I own these moments. Always.”
• “I love watching you explode in beautiful chaos around me.”
• “It’s your home, baby. I’m always your home.”
• “She is my family. And I’m hers.”
• “One day-not today, but one day soon-I might have to tell you I love you and watch the chaos that ensues.”

Katalina was subjected to a pretty harsh reality of sleeping with men to get money to care for her sick father. He had tried to keep her out of the mafia life but when she needed money, that’s where she went. After her father’s death, she relies on those same skills to gather intel from important rival men to help the mafia. She feels frustrated to not be present for the real discussions after doing her part, and she lets those feelings fester for too long. She has developed a deep relationship with Rome, who is the enforcer, but also longs for the compassion she feels from Bastian, the newly instated mafia head. New revelations come to life and Katalina leaves them all behind to hopefully belong somewhere else.

This was an okay read. There was a lot of stuff going on but at the same time, it felt like nothing. It built up pretty slowly and then we reached the climax at the very end, and the love triangle felt a little forced.
