This was my all time fav book in middle school. Still holds a special place in my heart
The book was so good that once I started it I just could not put it down! I also remember seeing this book during my childhood and always wanting to read it. I’m so glad that I finally did! I think what attracted me to this series the most were the cute covers with Petula on them. But why is she blue? I don’t know!
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Molly Moon, Rocky Scarlett & Petula’s New York City adventures. It also had several important lessons that I think anyone could benefit from.
The biggest one being that you could have everything you think you ever wanted in the world and it would not make you happy. That’s exactly how Molly Moon felt after her adventures in stardom. She wanted to return to her old life, exactly as it was before, and have her best friend Rocky, and the other children at the orphanage by her side again.
Even if you think you have a horrible life, there are people out there who have it much worse than you do.
Some people never know kindness and that is why they are horrible people.
You shouldn’t hate anyone for the way they are, you should forgive them as “that’s what they were taught to do.”
Its as Mrs. Trinklebury’s song says:
“Forgive, little birds, that brown cuckoo
For pushing you out of your nests.
It’s what mamma cuckoo taught it to do-
She taught it that pushing is best.”
On the other hand though, some people are just awful. Its just how they are. Its best to focus on enjoying your life in the moment.
Also, I recently learned that this book is also a movie! I definitely want to watch it now, however, as always, the book is probably better. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a cute, magical, hypnotic read! I cannot wait to read the next one!

I'm not going to give a rating, because it's been so long since I've read this and I'm not sure what rating I'd have given it; but I remember reading this book several times when I was in elementary school and I know I absolutely loved it back then.
I enjoyed this boook though not quite as much as I expected. Looking into reading the rest of the series.
Molly Moon, British orphan; uses her new-found hypnotism skills to get everything she thought she wanted but ends up better appreciating herself as well as home. Fun, outrageous plot; serious theme: being nice; honest; etc.
I enjoyed this book less than I did when I read it before.
But, in fairness, I'm now a good.......10 years older than I was then, and not a kid, so that's probably a lot of that.
Actually, when I first went to rent this book from the library, I didn't realize it was fiction and thought I was renting an instructional book on hypnotism. I was pleasantly surprised to find a (very) fictional story instead.
And I specify very fictional because even in this book (let alone later in the series) the author quickly leaves behind realistic hypnosis for a more supernatural fare. Which is fine, of course. Though not ideal if you're looking for more realistic hypnosis. But at the same time it's maybe not the best idea to teach children hypnosis, either.
Honestly this book is pretty simple but, again, that's more or less expected from a book aimed at kids, and it does deliver some important messages. As well as being decently entertaining. Moreso when i was a kid then now.
Me back then was more along the lines of "Ooh, an adventure!"
Me now is more like "Oh god she's going to the most expensive hotel in New York with like $2000 to her name I'm gonna get hives." But such is a normal perspective gained from age, I hear.
Fun book, good read (moreso if you're a kid).

Read this such a long time again, but the world creation was amazing. I was so engrossed, and even to this day I remember little details of the book, even though I read it about ten years ago.
