فكرة القصة مذهلة وفريدة من نوعها، العالم المسطح ذو البعدين والذي يرى سكانه خطوطا أفقية لأشكالهم...به كثير من الرمزيات التي تمثل واقعنا، لكن ربما أكثر ما وقع في نفسي هو اصرار المربع على ما يعرف ونفي مالا يعرف، مفارقة جيدة جداً اوضحها الكاتب، كيف ان ذي البعدين كان يشعر بالفوقية أمام النقطة وذو البعد الواحد، لكن عندما شاء القدر أن يتعرف على البعد الثالث أنكر بشدة بل استخدم العنف أمام ما يجهل...قرأتها بجدية تامة، لكن عندما حكيتها لأححدهم وجدت نفسي اقهقه ضحكا على كل فكرة فيه...ظريف للغاية.

This was a very entertaining and unique book! Short and quick to read, but conceptualising a 2D or even a 1D world was challenging! Having read about the book before reading it helped me to understand it's intentions and nuances. For example, while many people are understandably offended at the way Abbott portrays women, knowing this work is satire and mocking Victorian societal classes makes you understand that Abbott himself isn't saying women are dull, insensible morons, that is how society portrays women.

A very interesting book, I would recommend to anyone tbh.

Less a book about math or geometry, and more a book about class warfare and the role of religion in maintaining existing power structures. Fairly enjoyable either way.
