This book was great, until you get to that one chapter about the women.

Read it when I was 19. Felt like the author was punching me in the face.

Don't care if it's satire. Still felt like getting punched in the face.

Thanks for making me feel like I wasn't a person, book.

Such a great book! So short, and such an easy read, but so much food for thought. Edwin Abbott gets major props for packing such profound content into such a tiny volume. Definitely worth reading. Multiple times.

Una splendida "favola matematica" che offre diversi spunti di riflessione.
La prima parte può dirsi, in sostanza, una satira contro le società fortemente gerarchiche che ancora vigevano in Europa all'epoca in cui il libro è stato scritto, con qualche riferimento, io credo, alla rivoluzione francese col principio dell'egualitarismo, al Terrore e alla Restaurazione.
La seconda parte, senza dubbio la più bella e assolutamente geniale, è un invito all'umiltà intellettuale e all'immaginare oltre ciò che siamo in grado di comprendere.

Far ahead of its time, Flatland is an inspired take on multi-dimensional theory. The characters are compelling, the science profound -yet easy to understand- and the writing brisk and well thought out. Abbott takes a complex subject and makes it accessible to the layman without being condescending or over-simplistic. A great work for the scientifically inclined, as well as those that are not, I highly recommend reading this book.
