Not memoir, not really humor, definitely not the fluff I was expecting.

Reading the reviews after the book was almost as engaging. The writing is quality and the genuine intent of compassion and curiosity is clear.

If you only know Maeve Higgins as a panelist on Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me; this book reveals she can be quite serious when the subjects warrants it. Ms. Higgins' writing is heartfelt and honest; sometimes funny; sometimes sad; a lot like life.
When so many are enmeshed in tribalism and the demonization of those they perceive as others, Ms. Higgins writes movingly about our common humanity. "Love is an action: love is paying attention, love is a reckoning and a reconciliation with how the world really is."

Ups and downs but finished strong and I feel like I understood a little more. It kind of didn’t have well it did about community and love and people and anarchy, which I appreciated. And the title story at the end made me cry. I thought it was her first book and that was confusing, it very much feels like a second book, lots of thoughts but not as much structure or one big thing to say. But I appreciated it, loved her narration, and ultimately got a lot from it. I think I’m jealous of her home in New York and the stability and longevity of her relationship with it, that’s something I want for myself and my life, and I will. Also comedy stuff too.

Insightful, thoughtful and occasionally, mildly ridiculous- see the essay on the 90 Day Fiancé. But nevertheless, another great collection from Maeve Higgins. Highly recommend the audiobook - if you're like me and find a number of Irish accents rather relaxing, this is great for pre-bedtime listening.
