The art is amazing and this has so many good story beats as we begin to ramp everything up a bit, but where this loses a bit of steam for me is the fact that there are some things that were so massively impactful in the podcast that were done pretty weakly here. Most specifically would be the diary scene, which in the podcast is paced out and has a lot of weight to it, but here is blasted quickly through. If there were just a few panels of art with no dialogue added there to add a bit more to the scene I think it would have aligned closer to the impact of the original.
There were a lot of good character moments in this though, and Taako, as always, was the absolute standout with so many great beats hit throughout. But Magnus' choice was a great moment for his character as well and was done so well.
The summary pages at the beginning were laid out super weird and I could not follow them at all. I remember all of the story so I did not need the refresher, but that honestly makes it worse that I as someone who remembers all the details well could not make heads or tails of what order I was supposed to read that in.

I’m in good company when I say Eleventh Hour is my favorite arc. Cary Pietsch’s work here is excellent, per usual, so I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed with the resulting graphic novel, but I did feel like some of the story-smoothing that was done in translation sometimes made things confusing?? For example they never explained why June had the cup or that she was the one who created the bubble, and then just left her, silently, with her dad’s murderer to while they antagonized the worm? I struggled.
It's finally happened, we have finally arrived to the adaptation of my favorite TAZ arc!
The Eleventh Hour was a delight in podcast form, and I am so glad the graphic novel is just as good! This series has always nailed the balance of action, humor, and heart--this volume is no exception--but I always felt that The Eleventh Hour in particular really went above and beyond.
This volume gives us fun side characters, puzzles, plans, Time Loops, backstories, foreshadowing, and more of Carey Pietsch's incredible art.
I wish every part of the podcast could make it into book form, but since that is simply not feasible, I am glad they did such a good job bringing the most important pieces together in a fresh, cohesive way.
I love this series, I will always love this series, and I am equal parts excited and anxious to see the next volume.

I know what's coming next, and wow its gonna hurtThis is definitely the most impressive book in this series so far - not only is there great character development, there are REALLY creative page layouts playing with the time loop element and it's clear an absolutely staggering amount of work went into visually depicting all the many characters and locations necessary for this story. The McElroys are truly so lucky to have had someone as talented and passionate as Pietsch on this series. Can't wait for the next arc in this story!
What an absolute joy to read! I love this comic series and think it does a great job covering TAZ. It's time loop central, and Taako, Magnus, and Merle have to figure it out. Refuge is so cool, and I'm loving the character designs for newly introduced characters. And the worms!!
