I have adored the Adventure Zone for years and couldn't wish for more from a graphic novel adaptation. The visuals are stunning and are used very effectively to both literally and metaphorically convey what happens in the story.
In light of the last TAZ arc, Carey does a great job at sprinkling in more hints to the ending than the podcast was able to. This graphic novel keeps the structure of the podcast intact, while refining what made it so brilliant in the first place.
Magnus' character arc in this volume particularly always hits me right in the feels. It's fantastic.

The Balance arc of the Adventure Zone was truly lightning in a bottle in terms of story telling and ever since they started translating the story to graphic novel the McElroys and Carey have been doing a beautiful job of creating a pictures and a condensed narrative that does the original campaign justice.
This installment in the series has been their most ambitious yet I feel like and I think it is well worth the read! Granted it's kinda hard to jump in without the context of the other books but I'd still recommend the series and this story as a whole!

I found this part of the series to be the most impressive art-wise (so far). Carey Pietsch put a lot of love into every single drawing, and the creativity shines in so many places where I wondered how the audio medium would be translated into a graphic one — and it just worked wonderfully.
Theloop attempts being signified by chapters, resulting in jumping from chapter 7 to chapter 108, the gaps in Taako’s memory when talking to the chalice being just actual visual static , just *chefs kiss*. Absolutely brilliant stylistic devices in this. Even the use of page and panel layout was refreshing to me, and that they were used so cleverly as stylistic and storytelling devices, truly very impressive. Having the moments from the lunar interlude also interspersed between loop attempts was so clever too. Just absolutely love how this arc of the podcast was brought to the page. Especially since I didn’t enjoy the Eleventh Hour that much when listening to it.
My absolute favorite moment though and absolutely favorite pagespread was seeing “You’re going to be amazing.” Some truly gorgeous pages right there.

Aaaaaa ❤️ TAZ: Balance just has such a special place in my heart, and this latest installment of the graphic novel really starts to get into some of the Meaningful (TM) and interesting stuff (not that the first four volumes were uninteresting, just that things Escalate)
The art continues to be so charming and colorful, able to capture both extremely silly expressions and nonsense, as well as just being elegant and beautiful when it needs to be.
I think I'm going to just continue being even more excited for the next installment than I was for the one previously. Great stuff.

Every time I read one of these I want to do a re-listen. I miss Taako in my life.
i think this is my fave arc of taz, if not then its a close second to the suffering game
