I remember my friend reading Smile a while back and I was intrigued by the cover. Fortunately, today my brother has brought Sisters home from his school's library and since the last book O read was a graphic novel, I decided to go for it.
Sisters was an easy fast read, I read it in around 30 minutes or so. It's a story about the relationship of Raina and her sister Amara. They spent lots of hours and days shouting at each other, bickering at each other. Until they had to be stuck in a van for a week-long road trip.
What I like about graphic novels is that in a few words (dialogue, description, monologues....), the story was straightforward and didn't feel as if it lacked something. The images do help but it's hard to put words and make it as effective as the images. Kudos to graphic novel writers, artists etc.
Anywho, I liked Sisters, loved the banter and the not-so-normal yet still normal
things that happened within the family and of course, the two sisters. And Will.
Overall, it was good.

It's been a long time since I've read Smile but I remember loving the whole premise. With that said, Sisters was a bit of a let down compared to its predecessor. While Smile had a developed plot, Sisters seemed a bit forced. With a title like that the plot is so crystal clear and I felt like the story was lacking. Not much character development in the story, the script was predictable. What kept me reading was the art and Telgemeier's humor which I could enjoy.
Bottom line: Though the ending is completely wrapped in a bow, picture perfect, Sisters presents a very cute comic that is much more satisfying than other similar comics such as Diary of A Wimpy kid and Big Nate. However, Smile was overwhelmingly more consistent and I would recommend the Popularity Papers if you were looking for a book with ample drawings depicting a great friendship.

I pretty much loved this. Telgemeier nails the dynamics of a sibling relationship. The art is great, the dialogue is hilarious. Good fun.
