This book is so much fun. I loved that there is a plus-sized Asian American main character who is bisexual. Skye's relationship with her mother feels so true and real. Plus, I got an education in K-pop and even created a Spotify playlist based on the bands and songs mentioned.
This is so delightful, and just fun and ugh I enjoyed it a lot. So, there’s this Kpop competition held in LA, where they are looking for the next Kpop Star, and Skye joins because she’s such a good dancer and singer and she wants to prove she can-especially to her mom who thinks that Skye should hide away because she’s fat. Skye knows she’s pretty and talented and her passion drives this book, along with the lovely people she meets. I loved so much about this book-the fluffy romance with Henry, how Skye dealt with her mom (oooh that felt familiar), how Skye was bi, and yes-all the Kpop references. If you need something fluffy and feel good, oh man, this is a good pick.

A sweet book with a great message of body positivity, that features LGBTQ characters in relationships that are really authentic, including straight-passing bi characters who are so often errased in LGBTQ works & culture.
Very cute!! I wish Teen Me had had a Skye Shin to read about—it would have changed so much for me!
I devoured YA fiction as a kid/teen, and it’s been far too long since I’ve indulged, but I sought out this book as it was written by a friend of a friend! This book gave me all the feels of my old YA novels (a good first person POV! a good crush plot! a common enemy!) while also having several things I’ve come to value as an adult (body positivity and radical self love! working through complex family relationships! queer representation in media!). Also loved how it addressed above topics in a complex, unresolved, non-one-dimensional way. I’m moved and encouraged that literature like this is what the current YA generation gets to enjoy and learn from—my boarding-school-girl-turned-murderer page-turners certainly did not imbue this same good character in me lmao. Will have to check out her next novel being released in May!
A really cute story that pleasantly surprised me. I loved the body positivity messaging.
