THAT WAS SO CUTE OMG. I loved reading about Skye’s adventures in the world of K-Pop competitions. Seeing the prejudice and fatphobia against her made my blood boil, but it was so inspiring when she overcame them all and then some. I loved the romance in this book (Henry is a new book boyfriend to add to the list), and don’t even get me started on Lana and Tiffany. I LOVED them, they were so adorable. The one critique I have for this book is just some pacing issues. A couple of scenes were a bit rushed, like some of the competition scenes and the ending, along with seeing how everything with Skye’s mom turned out. I just thought certain scenes should’ve been longer while others should’ve been shorter, you know? But overall, this was excellent and so solid. I thoroughly enjoyed it. #QueenSkye

I enjoyed reading I'll Be The One. It was an amazing ride which keeps me turning the pages and wanting more. It was also one of the most empowering books I’ve ever read. It tackles fatphobia and a poor relationship with your parents. I loved how it was addressed. I also loved the character of Skye, how brave she was in standing up for herself, and the way she copes with the discrimination.
Also, seeing the journey of Skye in fulfilling her dreams was inspiring. It left my heart a pure joy with raw realizations. A book worth reading! It was a sweet, warm, empowering read.

I really liked this.
If anyone out there is hesitant to read this because you don't know anything about kpop, don't worry neither do I and I was able to follow it. When I say I don't know about kpop, that doesn't mean I dislike it, in fact I do enjoy kpop casually, I probably can't tell you the names of any group but like with anything if I enjoy the song I'll listen to it. Although I have had friends who are deeply into it and I have heard stories of extreme rules that must be followed by these idols regarding things like their weight, plastic surgery, etc which have lead to hospitalization and depression. I'm glad this book was able to delve into that side of the world of kpop idols.
Also omg Skye is adorable we love our Queen Skye!!
And Henry was also adorable.
I think bisexuality was well portrayed, like both our protagonist and her love interest are bisexual and there's nothing but support from their friends. As a bi person, I am very glad that there was no "but you're in a relationship with a person of the opposite gender" because that isn't how bisexuality works.
I do wish there was a little epilogue chapter though, like her first professional performance or something like that. But all in all it was super cute.

This was so cute!
I wanted something to listen to as an audiobook while I did some mindless work and was happy to see that this was available through my library even though it's a brand new release.
I absolutely flew through this and couldn't get enough of it. I recognized a good amount of the artists mentioned since I've been listening to Korean music for almost a year, so it was nice to pick up the references that were dropped.
If you're looking for a cute summer read, I recommend picking this up.

This was the happy heart positive vibes book I hoped it would be!
Sky is not ashamed about being plus-sized in an industry (K-pop) that values thinness, or bi in a culture that prefers straight. So watching her chase her dream of winning a reality show that all about dancing and singing is FUN and EMPOWERING.
A difficult parent, a cute boy, an experience with social media harassment, new friends, great old friends, a fluffy pup, and lots of guts make this book charming, relatable, and uplifting. I would LOVE to see it as a movie.

Umm everyone needs to read this book!
Seriously. I bought this thinking, “Ehhh I’m not rly into ya romance anymore and with no fantasy I probably won’t like it very much.” Yeah, I was wrong.
First, the body positivity alone make this 5 stars. I love a character who is confident and actively fights against stupid stereotypes around weight. I actually teared up a few times cause I get it. While my family was never THAT intense and abusive to me, in small ways they and friends definitely have fostered a hatred of my body my whole life. I am waiting to see this as a Netflix movie. I’d die to see a curvy girl absolutely fucking killing it!
I also enjoyed the romance, even if it was predictable. I love that we have bi-pride here and that it isn’t used as a plot device to create love triangle where the character has to “chose” men or women.
And of course, lets talk Korean pride! I loved hearing about different kpop groups and their styles compared to more mainstream American artists. It makes me wanna explore kpop a lot more! And seeing the different family dynamics was eye-opening too. Overall, this ticks all my boxes and you gotta read it!
