I want to bump this up to a 3 because Twilight is still very much my comfort media, but I do realize how harmful the whole franchise was. Bella being shown as choosing to give a little to Jacob's wants in fear of losing him is horrible. Jacob's overbearing want to be in a relationship with her is very real and rejection of people like him can result in women being attacked and/or killed. Bella and Edward both need to go to therapy because their self-worth is dangerously low. A vampire therapist needs to fall down from whatever heaven Stephenie Meyer believes in. The scene where Bella has an "epiphany" was infuriating. The whole scene was lazy and completely ignored the root of both of their problems. The scene where Edward begins to break things in the living room then screams in her face because of the result of the vote made me severely uncomfortable. I'm glad they left it out of the movie. Still some of the dialogue made me laugh and the theatrics were enjoyable.

I liked this one a lot less than the first book, largely in part because I have a stupid attachment to Edward and he was barely in the book. And the fact that he left. A bunch of things about the plot and such just pissed me off. I would have liked the book better too, if Jacob didn't have feelings for her and just wanted to be friends. I like his character separate from his feelings for Bella. Even during my "Twilight phase" in middle school this was my least favorite book of the series. Re-reading now (in 2020) it still is.

better than twilight.. if we're being real WHY DOESN'T SHE JUST CHOOSE JACOB HE'S HOT AND TALL AND NICE? I know he
imprints on her daughter and all but everyone knows that was just a plot device to write him off as a love interest because he is so clearly better than Edward.
Ugh I'm so mad about this because this book gave us a taste of how amazeballs Jacob is but Bella is so deluded she doesn't gaf about him sigh

You know, I had hoped rereading this as an adult would make me enjoy the book more, but, nope, it's still one of my least favorites in the saga. However, Smeyer did a great job at depicting what depression looks and feels like. At 12-13, I hadn't really started to understand mental health, so it didn't hit me as hard as it did this time around. Kudos to Smeyer on that front. Now, onto Eclipse post-holidays!
