though i found some of the subject matter objectionable like the many stories dedicated to the miliarty and ceos, though the latter i was expecting a lot more, i appreciated the overall message. i am obsessed with so many things and i feel as if i want to be carravigo, virgina woolf and alan turing in one person and tho its unlikely ill ever reach anywhere near their levels of skill or greatness, i need to hear that i dont need to just force myself to oil paint everyday or just code or just draw or whatever and still be successful. many great artists i admire have a similar array of related or random interests other than the specialisation or profession they are known for.
this isnt a book i usually read however one of my art teachers recommended it to me so i read it and honestly, i'm glad i did.

Le ragioni per cui ho letto questo libro sono almeno due. La prima è che è stato consigliato da [a:Bill Gates|18654160|Bill Gates|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]. La seconda è che fin dal titolo ho intuito che la tesi alla base di questo saggio forniva conferme a una cosa che ho sempre pensato: l’ossessione che molt* continuano ad avere per la specializzazione ha oggi sempre meno senso. A meno che tu non sia un campione o una campionessa di scacchi oppure Tiger Woods. In effetti, questi sono i due esempi da cui Epstein parte e che racconta come notevoli eccezioni: il golf e gli scacchi sono infatti due casi in cui la ripetizione (e quindi la specializzazione ossessiva) può ancora avere senso. Ma cosa succede oggi nella maggior parte degli altri ambiti? Grazie a tantissime storie e aneddoti, l’autore spiega come oggi il successo e l’innovazione siano facilitati dalla capacità di connettere conoscenze provenienti da campi diversi, grazie alla contaminazione e alla convergenza di punti di vista ed esperienze diverse. Il messaggio diventa così molto chiaro. Forse anche troppo, visto che ho trovato alcuni passaggi quasi "ripetitivi". Probabilmente ho anche ecceduto in confidenza nel volerlo leggere in inglese: alcuni esempi presentati dall’autore sono molto specifici e quindi si utilizzano termini molto specialisti (!).

I really enjoyed this book, probably because it felt very validating. I think this is a great book to read with Angela Duckworth's Grit. It's a great counterpoint to a lot of the ideas in that book, though I can see how both viewpoints don't necessarily contradict each other.

Interesting hypothesis- expanding breadth vice depth - being interdisciplinary- may prove more significant to success (however it may be defined).

I regained some confidence reading this book as I'm almost 30 and feel like this is it. That's my life. The leap of faith should be taken.

Going into reading this book I found myself at a bit of a crossroads in my career, unsure of how to proceed and lacking the confidence to make the decisions I wanted to make.
Range was a liberating listen/read, eye-opening of the possibility that life provides when you remove the focus of needing to specialize so soon in one’s life. It was equal parts empowering and therapeutic, as if someone had taken all the negative voices in my head and written out arguments against them. For my life and where I find myself, this book was simply every I could ask for.
