The cover and description had me believing that there would be more mystery and intrigue than there was. It was clear from the very beginning that it was just straight up child abuse. None of the characters (except for Nikki maybe) were at all interesting and we spent so much time in everyone’s heads. No part of me was invested in this story.
I won this in a Goodreads contest and was excited to pick it up. However, I was underwhelmed in the end. I was expecting twists and turns but it was pretty straightforward and clues fairly early on indicate who Mia really is. I loved the idea of a woman abducting a child due to grief from losing her own child, but I felt like the author just sprinkled that fact in as an afterthought when it could have provided really compelling motivation for Suzette. I also think the characters were fairly shallow and could have used more depth. I’m not sorry I read it but I’m not sure I would pick up another book by the same author.
This is more of a mystery than anything else. There wasn't any horror and barely any suspense. My main issue is the lack of oomph. The story requires additional suspense, mystery, and perhaps even a sense of excitement. Something that would get the heart going. The story had so much potential, but unfortunately, it didn't reach it.
Overall, I still enjoyed the plot and story but wasn't wowed.

Basic and uncomplicated writing, which makes for a quick read. Best part is hating Suzanne Fleming! I wish she would have gotten a little more justice.

Listened to this one, which I rarely do, it was really suspenseful and kept my attention. Three and a half stars, because parts of it were kind of corny and hard to believe.
I couldn’t even finish this book. It was so unbelievably predictable from the beginning. Upon reading other’s reviews and spoilers, I’m glad I wasn’t wrong.
The premise of this book intrigued me and I hoped for, if not something a little other-worldly, at least something a little horrifyingly plausible. I did not find these characters, or most of their situations, very plausible, and I did not care for the author’s prose style. Even though I wanted to put the book down for good many times, I kept pushing through just to find out what happened. Disappointed - not so much in the outcome, but in the book overall.
