5 MEGA STARS!

(I received an ALC for free via NetGalley in return for an honest review.)

I have no idea what took me so long to pick this up, but HOLY, was it ever great! Suspenseful, kept my attention, and I didn’t want to put it down. The characters were well developed and relatable. The switching back and forth between characters was not confusing in the slightest, which I feel often happens when writing from different points of view, but no issues for this author. The conclusion/resolution is perfect, and everything leading up to it had me on the edge of my seat, eyes wide open.

Very eager to get my own physical copy of this masterpiece to add to my personal collection. Hats off to you, Karen McQuestion. Please write more suspense novels like this one. I’m hooked!

Honestly, I couldn’t put it down. I was so interested to see what would happen. Makes you wonder why people are so strange! Glad it had a happy ending or I wouldn’t be sure about it. There are good people in the world thank goodness. Makes me sad for kids in the system though…..puts things into perspective a little.

I listened to the audiobook and that's probably the only reason I finished it. It's not that it's a bad book, it's just not my style. It's very descriptive and detailed, but I'd recommend this more to cozy mystery fans who enjoy books without violence or profanity (even though I don't consider this a mystery). There's no sex, vulgar language, and even the rebellious character is tame. The story involves abuse and kidnapping, but it's presented in a digestible manner without anything graphic or upsetting. I've never read fiction like this, but now I understand what readers want when they ask for gentle suspense books without explicit violence.
This is not horror and it's not a thriller.

I give it a 3.5! I liked the story but the end dragged on and I predicted it so it was a little lackluster. It is a sweet story of doing what’s right and the bad guys getting what they deserve!
