I really enjoyed this book. It came up in a paranormal/horror search and is definitely not that, though, so if you go in expecting that you will be disappointed. It has the deep dive into characters that reminds me of novels by people like Debbie McComber or LaVyrle Spencer, with an added mystery plot.

Another book where people don’t call the police when they really should and it makes no sense for them not to. And in this book, this pretty much applies to every single character pretty much all of the time.

Really great read that’s hard to put down, even though it’s kinda predictable. Not sure why someone labeled this as horror because it’s definitely not. It’s a mystery with the crux of it centering around child abuse, nothing paranormal in here at all

I listened to the audiobook and that's probably the only reason I finished it. It's not that it's a bad book, it's just not my style. It's very descriptive and detailed, but I'd recommend this more to cozy mystery fans who enjoy books without violence or profanity (even though I don't consider this a mystery). There's no sex, vulgar language, and even the rebellious character is tame. The story involves abuse and kidnapping, but it's presented in a digestible manner without anything graphic or upsetting. I've never read fiction like this, but now I understand what readers want when they ask for gentle suspense books without explicit violence.
This is not horror and it's not a thriller.
