I listened to the audiobook and that's probably the only reason I finished it. It's not that it's a bad book, it's just not my style. It's very descriptive and detailed, but I'd recommend this more to cozy mystery fans who enjoy books without violence or profanity (even though I don't consider this a mystery). There's no sex, vulgar language, and even the rebellious character is tame. The story involves abuse and kidnapping, but it's presented in a digestible manner without anything graphic or upsetting. I've never read fiction like this, but now I understand what readers want when they ask for gentle suspense books without explicit violence.

This was so addicting! It gave me the same vibe as Gone Girl did, which I was obsessed with.
I was really excited to read this book given how many positive reviews it has, and the plot sounded so good! But I’m only about a quarter of the way through and I’m bored to tears, I’m going to have to DNF this.
It just seems like some things are added to make the book longer but have no significance to the plot? And so far, nothing major has happened to get me re-engaged. From other lower reviews, it seems like it doesn’t get any less boring. Picking up this book to read a few pages felt like chore so I’m just not going to waste the time.
