The books was all over the place. I felt like the book was “distracted”. So many short chapters pulling ideas from all over the place. I felt like I was getting car sick. I mean, time boxing isn’t a new concept. Many productivity books addressed that. But sure, a good reminder. One good concept that was stressed out is that our addictions come from discomfort and if we want to really address that addiction, it’s important to ask why or know the reason behind the discomfort. A third concept was the main topic of the unfuck yourself book which centers around the idea that what you tell yourself matters a lot despite what we read before in “The Will Power” about how sugar affects your will. Sugar doesn’t and your self talk does!

The first part overall talks about the theory wasn’t bad. It classifies the triggers of distraction into internal triggers vs external triggers. But then the tools to attack these triggers like how to manage email, apps, feeds, your desktop and so on is freaking boring. The last part that talks about the work place is even more boring. Are you kidding me about how great Slack is? Lol

Valuable practical lessons in how to combat distractions. I have implemented a few, like reorganizing my phone’s home screen and turning down the number of notifications I get even more.

Some good points in this book that I can implement, however some points were not and seemed to be included to increase the action items.
