Although unlike Kristin Hannah’s more recent books this is a great book. Quick read with an unexpected twist at the end.

Not her best book in my opinion. The random love interest was a sidetrack that wasn't especially welcome. But it was an interesting read about a child who comes to a small town and is totally wild and the women who try to help her.

I really wanted to like this book. Intriguing premise, and the perspective jumping was done well. I found the tempo draggy for most of the book, and the antiquated ideas of autism (even for 2006) did not start the book with a good impression. I feel like the medical aspects of the book could have been better ("it's quiet here, don't come in" would NEVER be uttered by a nurse on Christmas 😂)

I found the character development a bit disjointed and forced.
