Amazing book, best of the fourI have read from the redwall series,
and I loved those. defenite recommended book for those who have read redwall
and I loved those. defenite recommended book for those who have read redwall
This is the fourth Redwall I have read and they do fall into the trap of being a bit samey. That being said, the immersive world is rich and vibrant with many delightful or menacing characters. There is a purity in a story where the heroes and the villains are clear and obvious and every species have their own speech patterns and mannerisms. This had a little more going on than the ones before it and still managed to remain unmuddled and linear.
This was the first Redwall book I ever read, way back in the 4th grade, and on this re-read several years since the last it (surprisingly!) lives up to my fond memories! Yes, the writing is heavily skewed for a juvenile audience. But Jacques does a really good job of showing the tolls of war and evil without sparing the sadness or tragedy, regardless of how kiddie his audience is intended to be. Love so many of the characters and relationships, and there's still plenty of rousing adventure and action to be enjoyed.
A dear friend gave me this book because it was one of her childhood favorites. As much as I wanted to love it, I just wasn't getting in to it. Maybe I shouldn't have tried to start a series in the middle.
The hardest Redwall book to read so far. The first two “books” were slow going, but the third “book” went by so quickly!
