This was one of my favorite Redwall books growing up and it was fun to reread it to preview for the girls. Content considerations: violence and death (not graphic), peril, name calling (eg. numbskull). 6+

Probably the best of the series but still a book designed for children. Good for a light hearted read and amazing descriptions of joy and cheer.

Good story with a little less "fluff" than the standard redwall story. The Greypatch conflict clearly felt secondary to the Gabool conflict.

The suicide mission of the long patrol was truly heart-rending. The Redwall series is at its best in the darker moments
