Yet another winner from Linwood Barclay. And as usual, yet another box of surprises to keep you guessing until the end. Even though it's a series, this didn't end with a cliffhanger, so it's not something that lures you on that way; rather, it lured me on because it was so good, I wanted to read more.

This was a well-done audiobook version, by the way. If you aren't a regular audiobook reader, this would be a good one to get you hooked.

I really liked this book! I read 300 pages the first day, almost unheard of for me. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that a couple of the plot lines were left open at the end, awaiting the next book. i know it's like that for trilogies and other series, but I haven't had that with Linwood Barclay books in the past, so I was disappointed that I have to wait to find out what happens with those plots.

Some adult language, a brief sex scene, adult concepts. Another good one for Barclay; he's a new favorite of mine.

I usually love anything by this author but this one did not grab me at all.

I understand that this is the first in a trilogy so maybe that's why this book felt all over the place.
I enjoyed some parts and others made no sense. I guess I'll need to read #2 to get answers.

Vill man ha spänning och en bladvändare så kan man alltid lita på Linwood Barclay. Sveket är medryckande och jag sträckläser. Lättsmält underhållning i vårsolen! Kul att det är första delen i en trilogi. Ser fram emot nästa del.

This was a really fun read. One of those 'can't put it down' books. But what's with all these 2 and 3 book series nowadays? Mr. Barclay, please just write a book and finish it. You can use the same characters next time, but it just pains me to read a book and find out it's really only HALF a book. Plus, if I'm buying half a book, charge me half price. I guess this generates more revenue, but it seems slightly dishonest to me. I feel rather cheated that I have to buy another book just to get the end of this one. Take a page from Lee Child or Brett Battles. I promise I'll buy your books, just give me a real full story in each one. Cliffhangers? Nope! This is for real just half a book.

Having said that, Linwood Barclay is still a really good writer. His characters are complex and interesting, and his plots, even though you must seriously suspend your disbelief, are fun.

Mystery book group - have really liked this author in the past but this just seemed to have missed the mark. Too many characters with contrived relationships and a surprise twist that wasn't really a surprise at all.
