As this was the first of Jen Turano's books I read, I really enjoyed it. I did find the plot outlandish (as usual in romance books) but the romance was enjoyable. However, after reading a few more of her books, I came to realize that her writing is incredibly formulaic and the same events occur in every book, so while I enjoyed this book, the others began to lose their luster.

A light read that was entertaining. I would have given it 5 stars except for some thematic elements that I could have done without.

Jen Turano writes funny romances. I know people may not expect Christian romance, especially Christian historical romance to be funny, but Turano always manages to have a sense of humor about her characters. And watching these two throw sparks off of each other was always amusing. But beyond their form of bickering as falling in love, watching both of them change, especially Theodore, who I thought was a complete neanderthal in book one, was lovely. The book left me smiling.

This book is funny. Don’t get me wrong; the plot is serious, and towards the end of the book, it gets pretty suspenseful, but Ms. Turano writes with wit, humor, and loads of charm.
Both main characters, Arabella and Theodore, are, in my mind, very well developed throughout the story, and are quite likeable, even when they’re being stubborn. The chemistry between the two is really sweet and honest. They’re relatable, fun, and really, just loveable. I’d give anything to know them in real life rather than just in a work of fiction!
Ms. Turano did a fabulous job in writing this book! And I really can’t wait to read another installment in this series (the first, A Change of Fortune, released in November 2012). I highly, highly recommend A Most Peculiar Circumstance to you…but only after you’ve read A Change of Fortune. I didn’t read the first book, and though I don’t think anything was ruined for me, I know I missed out on some storyline that was alluded to in A Most Peculiar Circumstance. Besides, if the first book in this series is anything like the one I just reviewed, then I’m missing out on a fun, fabulous read if I don’t go back and read the first one! (Which, as it happens, I’m about to start!)
*I was given this book for free from Bethany House Publishers through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book was quite entertaining! Theadore and Arabella hardly seem like a match made in heaven, but their “arguments” are full of wit and of course their romance is adorable.

A nice enough read, although the characters seem too much like Godbotherers to me. And the romance plot felt too...I don't know, too neat and nice with a pink lacy bow on top and inevitable to my liking.
I was looking for HR books with suffragette characters but perhaps I expected too much from this book. The occasional mentions of rallies and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were not enough. Interestingly, the author used Stanton, an ex-Christian, instead of, say, Susan B. Anthony or Lucretia Mott, who come from the Society of Friends, as the reference for the suffrage movement in the book.
