Ashley was one of the most vile characters I've ever read. The sad thing is, he's probably little fish compared to the big fish in reality. Honestly, following Darby's decision making within this story felt like I, myself  was in her footsteps and made me think that if this was really real, I don't even know if I'd be able to survive. Reading this thriller was scary and chilling. The author did a good job of making the reader feel like they weren't reading, but rather experiencing everything on the page. I would have rated this higher but one of Ashley's "jokes" during his flashback about his Uncle threw me off. I understand it may have been done to show he and his Uncle were disgusting human beings but the use of the N word by a white author when there aren't even any black people in the story is off-putting and it took away my enjoyment as I continued reading. Objectively the story was good but, honestly this moment also left a bad taste in my mouth.

Mr. Adams, you had no right to put us through this roller-coaster. Thank you, though.

Pros: Pretty easy read with lots of action.

Cons: Some violence in the book that I didn't enjoy. The main villain can be a little verbose at times. A tad predictable.

For me, this book was a perfect thriller. Why? Because it was THRILLING.

At first, I was disappointed. If you are looking for a psychological thriller, this definitely is NOT one. (Sort of spoilers ahead, but not really). I thought that I'd get around 200 pages of Darby trying to figure out who the kidnapper was and what was truly going on. Instead, 50 pages in, we already know who the kidnapper is! Initially annoyed, I thought: what the hell is the rest of the book gonna be about? Well, it's about Darby trying to save the kid. And boy is it a ride.

This book honestly kept me up at night in anticipation. It was hard to put it down, but, unfortunately, I had to take breaks for important life-reasons, like school and my job. But if raring, adrenaline-inducing, sort-of action-packed suspense is what you're looking for, do yourself a favor and read this book.

AMAZING! :)
