I went into this book with high expectations after seeing so many glowing reviews, and I genuinely thought it would blow me away. Unfortunately, I hated every moment of it. I’m someone who rarely DNF’s books, so I pushed through, but it was a struggle. Was it predictable? Not entirely, but in some ways, yes. Spoiler alert: everyone is in on it. The culprit is revealed about 10% into the story, the little girl escapes around 40%, and the rest is just a repetitive game of cat and mouse as they try to outmaneuver each other. I kept hoping it would get better, but it did not, and the use of racial slurs (from a white male author, no less) left a bad taste in my mouth. Did I even read the same book as everyone else? The best part of this read was when it ended. The only thing that slightly redeemed it was how quick it was to get through.

exquisite writing style with an expertly crafted beginning that failed to stick the landing

2.75 bad writing and the villain was so cartoonish lol

3.5 ⭐️

The was extremely intense and suspenseful the entire book. I felt like the same patterns kept happening over and over again. It got frustrating and took away from the characters and overall plot.

perfection

2 stars, only because I actually finished it. I didn’t enjoy it at all.

The racial slurs, the way the author writes Lars’ dialogue, the over the top and never ending Murphy’s law situations, it was all too much, but in a car crash kind of way where I couldn’t look away.

4.5- really really good! I started this one a couple years ago and got genuinely spooked, so I stopped. Read it in just 2 days this time. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a good fast-paced thriller!

Such a good book. Stranded a rest stop in Colorado. When it’s discovered that there is a kidnapper among the group. The child is in a dog crate in a mini-van,but who does the van belong to? This is an action packed thriller. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I hated this book. Maybe being a mom of a young daughter made me more upset than most but this book really bothered me and was not enjoyable. I did read it in less than a day as I had to get to the conclusion. I hate action movies as they seem to just be problem after problem and that is how this book seemed to go to. It increased my cortisol but I couldn't just stop it for my sanity.
