Read for Litsy Markup Postal Book Club (#LMPBC) Round 5 - Group J.
I’m purposely not giving a big review on this book because I want the other members of this group to be surprised when they read it. Suffice it to say, I really vacillated between rating it a three-star or a four-star.

This was a frustrating read. Imo it was drawn out and the antagonists were identified too early on.
This takes place over the course of one tension filled, snowbound evening. Five people find themselves stranded in a rest area, with no cell reception, on a Colorado highway during a blizzard. One of them, Darby Thorne, is trying to make it home to see her sick mother. While she's outside searching for a signal she discovers a young girl trapped in the back of the vehicle of one of her fellow strandees. Darby is intent on saving the kid and escaping, but she in isolation during the terrible storm, she needs help, and she doesn't know which of the other strandees she can trust. This is a page turner and it kept me on the edge of my seat. The author did a good job of capturing the claustrophobic helplessness and desperation of stranded far from civilization without cell service during an emergency. Set on the eve of Christmas Eve, it's a great thriller to read this time of year.
Man that was good. 4.5 stars? It’s missing the final *mmph* for me. Thrillers are usually underwhelming for me. This one was not!! I felt like I was there and as a result was jumpy at night after reading it lolol. Thrillers do not normally have that effect on me.
A shoutout to Kamryn for the rec: she has never failed me. And shoutout to my husband for badgering me to read this daily. I’m glad I did!

Quick and thrilling story about the will to survive. The twists were advertised, so they were expected, but still a fun read.

This book had me audibly reacting, and there were surprises up until the very end. I know some reviewers said they didn't like that she made dumb mistakes/decisions, but I think anything she did wrong was incredibly realistic for the situation she was in, and she did the best she could under the circumstances, especially while simultaneously being cognizant of how young Jay was (like how she spoke to her) and the trust required between them to survive.
