Falling Fast is your typical boy/girl love story. Boy comes from the bad side of town and the girl is from the middle class side of town. There's also lots of family issues going on behind the scenes - throw in sex, alcohol and Shakespeare which adds up to be a fairly predictable Young Adult romance novel.
I might not have been in the mood, whatever it was, this was not the book for me. There must have been something though that made me want to keep listening. Could be the simple, easy story or that it was a quick 5 hour/4 CD set so I knew that if I kept going there wouldn't be much longer to go.
I didn't know this was the beginning to a series, and I have no desire to find out anything more about River and Flynn. Sorry guys!

Existe quem acredite que O Primeiro Amor pode ser para sempre e, provavelmente, uma em um milhão de pessoas - digo eu -, acredita que quando o vislumbrar pela primeira vez a tão desejada figura saberá, inequivocamente, que esta será aquela por quem sempre esperou. Abençoados! Eu não acredito nem numa coisa nem noutra, aliás, há dias que até só bastante desacreditada em quaisquer lirismos românticos mas isso, claro está, não invalida que eu não goste de saber, ler, que estes pequenos milagres acontecem e quando estas histórias se fazem acompanhar de muitos pormenores comuns então, independentemente intensidade do texto, sei que vou encontrar algo que vale o captar da minha atenção.
Quando River, aluna de um colégio feminino, se dirige com as suas colegas à escola de St. Cletus, frequentada só por alunos do sexo oposto, para uma audição, transporta consigo o intimido e secreto desejo de passar no casting para o papel principal de Romeu e Julieta. Afinal de contas ela acredita no amor e nem mesmo a mais talentosa e bela das suas amigas consegue transmitir essa emoção na perfeição. Mas, quando tudo parecia estar a correr bem, heis que no casting final o aluno escolhido para o papel de Romeu, Flynn, desperta em si os sentimentos que sempre manteve guardados para alguém único e, entre o tremer da sua voz e o palpitar do seu coração, nem tudo corre como ambicionava, excepcionando, possivelmente, o facto de poder ter encontrado o amor da sua vida.
Tudo, ou quase tudo, nesta história gira em torno do romance entre Flynn e River. Desde a peça de teatro a partir da qual os protagonistas se conhecem, a todas as particularidades que nos vão sendo permitidas descobrir, é graças à ligação entre estes jovens, de passados conturbados, que nos vai sendo suscitada a atenção ao longo da narrativa que, não se tratando de algo excepcional, entretém na medida certa para quem procura algo muito leve e juvenil.
No que diz respeito a personagens, a imaturidade e as ilusões de quem tem todo um futuro repleto de sonhos e possibilidades pela frente é clara e, talvez por isso, este livro acabe por ser ideal apenas para o público jovem-adulto.
River é a típica filha de pais separados que por vezes encontra dificuldades em estabelecer uma relação próxima com a sua mãe e o seu irmão mais novo. Atinada e, acima de tudo, apaixonada, esta protagonista tem os seus maiores trunfos na compreensão dos seus dilemas familiares, ainda quem nem sempre os ultrapasse, e na sua imensa convicção em tudo aquilo em que acredita caracterizando-se, particularmente, pela entrega visível aos seus sentimentos.
Flynn, por outro lado, é mais controverso devido à vida dura que o tornou mais cauteloso e arrogante. No meu ponto de vista, uma vez que nem sempre estive de acordo com as suas opções durante a leitura, esta personagem acaba por suscitar curiosidade através seu seio familiar e dos cuidados que tem para com quem estima, resguardando-os e a si mesmo até nos oferecer uma visão bastante realista de condições que, não fazendo parte da vida de muitos leitores, não lhes são totalmente desconhecidas.
Quanto a intervenientes secundários, não achei muita piada ao núcleo de amizades dos protagonistas mas gostei bastante da família de Flynn criada, essencialmente, para despertar a emotividade e a afecção de quem lê. Ainda para mais, se tivermos em atenção os muitos jovens a quem este livro poderá alcançar e que devem, irrevogavelmente, estar acordados para verdades e lugares comuns onde cada dia é uma luta para ultrapassar as dificuldades.
Por tudo o que citei, esta é uma história em que as singularidades têm que ver com emoções e afectividades, sejam ela dirigidas ao sexo oposto ou aos que retêm a nossa estima, existindo, como a própria sinopse elucida, um espaço muito especial para a ficção dramática de William Shakespeare – a cereja no todo do bolo para quem gosta de textos realmente românticos.

Your writing is engaging, exciting and relatable for tweens. I know this because Girl, Missing was one of my favourite books when I was 12, and I did enjoy seeing similar suspense in this novel despite its nonthreatening setting of a high school play.
But this has to be the single most toxic relationship I have seen in YA. Flynn may actually fit some of the criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder and he needs to work through his anger management issues before he and River end up together.
The way their relationship is going, I fear that he will start hitting her, and she will continue making excuses for him, as she has done the several times he has been caught screaming at her and obstructing her from talking to other boys. I can reach this conclusion because I am 19 now and understand relationships much better, but if I had read this book when I was 12, I probably would have agreed with River that Flynn is just "passionate".
He is not passionate. He is aggressive, coercive, and distant enough that River genuinely thinks he might hurt her and/or sleep with her best friend if she doesn't agree to sleep with him. Please do not teach tweens that this kind of behaviour is romantic, because it's not even near okay.
I would only recommend this book to adults who enjoy books aimed at tweens but who are also wise enough to know that this relationship is not normal.

This book was ok. It is a romance book. River meets Flynn when they are doing a school play of Romeo and Juliet. Flynn has a lot of secrets and gets angry very quickly. If River mentions money or his family he will get extremely angry but River can't help falling for him.
I really disliked the characters in this book, I didn't like Flynn as he got angry over silly things. His family isn't as well off as others, but that is no reason to get angry at other people. River, was also quite annoying as she put up with his behaviour.
This book is the first in a series of four books, I don't think I will be reading any of the other books in this series as I just didn't connect with the characters. I thought this was going to be a light romance story but I didn't feel that there was much romance at all.
The only good thing about this book is that it was short and quick to read, I managed to read it in a day.
