Sólo voy a decir: LOL. ¿Qué narices se le pasó por la cabeza a esta mujer?
Ahora entiendo la carta de disculpa que hay justo antes de empezar la historia. EN FIN, las dos estrellas se las merece por cómo escribe, yo creo que no he entendido nada de NADA.

Writing this review is hard. Because this book is like nothing I have ever read. It is heavy, complex, and like a puzzle. For over three-fourth's of the book I was scratching my head trying to figure out what was going on. People would ask me what it was about and I could only respond "I honestly don't know, I haven't figured it out yet" It definitely makes you think out of the box.
When reclusive novelist Senna Richards wakes up on her thirty-third birthday, everything has changed. Caged behind an electrical fence, locked in a house in the middle of the snow, Senna is left to decode the clues to find out why she was taken. If she wants her freedom, she has to take a close look at her past. But, her past has a heartbeat…and her kidnapper is nowhere to be found. With her survival hanging by a thread, Senna soon realizes this is a game. A dangerous one. Only the truth can set her free.
This is not a happily-ever-after story. This book has feelings, the words bleed off the pages. The writing is beautiful, detailed, and executed flawlessly. Tarryn Fisher creates complex and moving characters that have serious emotional hang-ups. They make you feel despite if you can relate or not.
My advice is to just jump in, don't look for answers, and allow Senna to tell her story. Pay close attention, and when all the reasons are revealed be prepared to be shocked. This is an emotionally unforgettable journey. And while I couldn't relate to Senna I found myself rooting for her. I felt myself understanding her and wanting her to heal, love, succeed, and live.
“You’ve been silent your whole life. You were silent when we met, silent when you suffered. Silent when life kept hitting you. I was like that too, a little. But not like you. You are a stillness. And I tried to move you. It didn’t work. But that doesn’t mean you didn’t move me. I heard everything you didn’t say. I heard it so loudly that I couldn’t shut it off. Your silence, Senna, I hear it so loudly.”

I liked the idea of mud vein in the book, but things happened in the story because the author said so. In the end, I felt nothing for anyone and anything as it seemed like everything was built with sand.
“Why are you here?” “Because you are.”

Ahem....before I give my review I'd like to provide a disclaimer: I was in the mood for a dark, creepy horror-esque book. This book has been on my TBR shelf for a while, and I know that some of my friends really like it. After reading it, I don't really think I was in the right mindset to receive it in the way that it should've been. That being said, I still thought it was creepy in its own way. I'll tell ya why....
This book is dark in the sense that the main character, Senna, is completely broken and damaged. What she endures is insane, and I hope no real person ever has to experience these horrific things. Without giving anything away, the revelation in this book is pretty f'd up, and for that I gave it an extra star. I have been thinking about this book days after finishing it. I haven't read about such a flawed character in quite sometime. Once you learn the meaning behind the title, it makes a LOTTA sense.
This isn't your typical kidnap/hostage victim. Senna, along with her captor, are part of something that I don't think is done often when it comes to abductions. Sometimes Senna's moods or her lack of feelings (she has those a lot!) were a little overdone for me. But I appreciate the whole premise of the story. I think what she went through, in a way, was bittersweet.

"I like pain. I like when it lingers. It reminds a person of what they've lived through."
Tarryn Fisher slayed me. She gutted me. She took my heart out of my chest by ripping it from my throat and then shoved it right back in - knowing it would never be the same, that my heart would be a little jagged, a little off, for the rest of my life.
I wish I could write as prettily as Tarryn does just so I could express my love for this book. I just want to borrow her ability for ten minutes - long enough to tell her how amazing she is and how beautiful, tragic, incredible Mud Vein is.
Going into this book, I had expectations - I knew it would be dark, I knew everyone was talking about it, I knew there was kidnapping involved and I knew that - from what I was told - I would probably like it. However, here are a few things I did not expect...
1) I did not expect to get pulled into this book so quickly and so completely that I found it hard to exist anywhere else in the world until I finished.
2) I did not expect to be feverishly highlighting passages, quotes, and scenes because I could relate to them, because they were beautiful, and because they were real.
3) I did not expect to see a little of myself in the "crazy" heroine - but I did. More than I care to admit, actually.
And most of all... I did not expect to cry. No one warned me. Sure, they warned me when I read TFIOS. They warned me when I went to see The Notebook for the first time. But no one - NO ONE - told me I would be wrecked, sobbing, gross ugly snot-filled crying when I read the last page of Mud Vein. But I was. I so, so was.
This book is a captivator. It's a kidnapper. It will take your thoughts, your heart, your mind, your soul - and it will take them all just long enough to change them. It will change you.
I loved this book. I hated this book. I was confused and angry and elated and sad. I loved, I hurt, I hated, I laughed, I cried - this book pulled more emotion from me than my first real relationship that lasted over two years.
I don't have the right words to describe why this book is so amazing because it just... is. Tarryn Fisher is a poet in sinister clothing. She is dark and eye opening and so, so damn beautiful. Her writing style will have you engulfed within the first few pages, and the deeper you go - the deeper the words will scar you.
Thank you, Tarryn Fisher, for sharing your incredible gift with the world. It's writers like you who make me want to try harder, be better, write more. You're an inspiration and a literary genius.
This book gets 5 stars, but I wish I could give it 10. Bravo.

Another wild book by Tarryn Fisher.
This was really weird and having read Marrow, I knew it was going to be twisty.
I would definitely recommend reading Marrow, then immediately reading this book. While they aren't directly linked, there are some correlations that will change how you look at Marrow. Very interesting and sneaky!
