I really enjoyed the writing style of this thriller novel and was captivated by the storyline almost immediately trying to figure out who kidnapped these people and why. I had a hard time setting this book down and was enthralled. However, the reveal of who was behind the whole ordeal and their reason why didn't make sense to me. There were also several important threads of the story that I feel weren't resolved or had a purpose overall and I was left feeling unsatisfied.

I was really unsure about this book most of the way through. It's hard to watch someone act with such disdain towards themselves and others. There were a few scenes I had to put it down and walk away because it was like a punch in the gut. I was confused by Senna, heartbroken for her, hated her. But somehow at the end of the book there was such light, such hope. I think in a way we all have a bit of a Mud Vein in us. Broken by life or others, afraid to hope, unwilling to believe, sometimes all it takes is the bright light of another to chase away all the darkness and show us who we really are.

I don't understand why so many gave this book so few stars. I absolutely loved this book! I am forever in love Tarryn Fisher! Another 5 star book! I did read this book after reading Marrow, which some say I should have done the opposite but it didn't spoil it for me. MV is very well written. I think that is what sucks me is the way the author writes. Read this book in 1 sitting practically.

This was a let down for me. It might be because it was talked up so much, so I had high standards for it. However, it could be because I just couldn't get into it. I don't regret reading the book. It kept my interest (most of the time) and I did want to finish it, just to see how the story ends. I could never get behind Nick. There just wasn't enough there to develop his character or his relationship with the main character. Poor Isaac- he fell for the girl who can't/won't feel and then has to reap some mighty repercussions because of it. I didn't get the idea for the villain of this story and I HATED the ending. Eh, I'm still on the fence as a whole with the book. The only thing I know for sure is that, after making it to the end of the book, I despised the way it ended!

First of all, Senna is not alone in the house as the blurb can let us believe. That's change everything to me. I loved the end of the story and Senna's relationship with Isaac - even if it's not a typical romance.
Senna was really fucked up in the head (like a good moody and reclusive writer)

But the whole thing with the house and its owner reminded me of Saw (without the tortures obviously) and that didn't rock my boat at all. I don't like people who play God.

There's still a lot of mystery around the house and the zookeeper... no closure at all about that

Hmmm.
