Judging this book on its writing, the quality of the words, and the talent the author has... I'd give this story five stars. But. Big but. My first thought after finishing it was, "What was the point?" If the point was to utterly depress me and suck almost all of the hope out of my body... consider it a success.

To say the heroine is unlikable isn't quite true. She's... depressing. Hopeless. Bleak. Emotionless. Stark. Off-putting. A void into which love enters and never comes out again. I couldn't relate to her or understand her. I felt for her, which was just weird since she had no emotions herself.

It also didn't help that I never quite bought the plot. It never felt real to me. And when all is revealed, I wasn't shocked. I felt misled. I didn't understand what possible motive the kidnapper could really have had to do all of that.

And don't even get me started on the ending. I've read books that have made me mad when they end the way they do. Or sad. Or sad and mad. This one... I feel... let down? Like I was on a rollercoaster that has made its steep ascent, is almost to the top, about to get to the good part - the freefall, but it just stops. Stalled. You don't get the crazy, fuzzy feel good rush.

Sigh. Simply put, I don't like stories that give you hope only to find out there is none. I don't consider this book to have a happy ending at all. There was no point to the character growth. No point to the developing relationship. None. It all comes to naught.

Oh well.

Absolutely perfect.

Mud vein is not for the faint hearted. It cuts to your core and is truly a worth while tale.

The story is raw and enthralling from start to finish.
The writing style is superb.

It's a book I will definitely reread in the near future(like next month).

Mud Vein intrigued me in a way that no other book has been able to do for a very long time!

Everything about this book is the opposite of what I normally look for, and I loved it. Fisher created unusual characters, who had unusual relationships, under extremely unusual circumstances. I haven't seen the inside of this much pain and depression since Edgar Allen Poe.

The best part? I never once guessed what the next page would hold.

I won this book in a giveaway, not from the author. I have never read a solo book by this author. I have read Never Never which was co-authored by Tarryn Fisher, but that is all. I loved the way Tarryn told the story. I hate books that go back and forth between past and present. Tarryn started with the present and then did a few chapters in the past to give us the back story. I liked that. I knew nothing about Mud Vein when I went in. I like going in blind. Tarryn is quite the storyteller. I didn't want to put the book down because I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next. I will say this book is not for everyone. It does not have the traditional happily ever after ending that most people want. I am thinking the author likes to mess with her readers. I will read another Tarryn Fisher book after reading this one to see if this is true.

Mud Vein is about a girl who wakes up trapped in an abandoned house. She finds a man tied up and soon realizes that he is an important part of her past. Her kidnapper seems to know a lot about her past and uses it as a game.

I read one of Taryn Fisher's other books, Marrow, which was written after this. Two of the characters from this made a cameo in that book. The order in which they are read could lead the reader to jump to certain conclusions faster.

The lack of dialogue made me feel rather uncomfortable. I would think that you would talk more if you have literally nothing else to do... I also don't think that the author is particularly skilled with good endings, but at least it was conclusive. When I read her book Marrow for my book club, it was an amazing book but the ending was inconclusive and left everyone very confused. She likes twists. In this story, the character's motive behind the twist was a rather unbelievable, and that ruined the ending for me.

This was a very interesting book to discuss. You just have to go into the book not expecting a happy ending. Tarryn Fisher is known for dark and depressing stories. That combined with an unlikable main character left me with a bad taste in my mouth after finishing this book.

Just wow. I don't like to swear, but what a mind fuckery supreme novel! So many things going on and so much darkness. It's like it took the premise from [b:Still Missing|7159515|Still Missing|Chevy Stevens|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1260468195s/7159515.jpg|7383770] and then made it darker and mind twisty.

If you want a dark and twisty novel, that will keep you guessing til the very last page, then read this one. She is a great author!!

I wanted to quit reading this book so many times but I'm not a quitter.

Interesting

If it was possible, I would give this book a million stars. I never thought that I'd love a book so so much, and feel so connected to it in some way.
SpoilerIt made me cry when I remembered a small part from Marrow.

It is honestly one of my favourites!! After reading the books from "Love me with lies" series, I really never thought that I'll find a part of myself in another book. But in this one I have and it was worth every minute of reading.
Tarryn Fisher, you did it again!!! :)
