Despite his best efforts and belief otherwise, Thompson contributed to the system in a way few could. Every non republican youth dreams of upending the system in a way that sees themselves the beneficiary, whereby it be society as a whole or in Thompson’s case, himself. In many ways this book details how he was a product of his time, and the unique circumstances that birthed this uniquely American character.

A solid view of Hunter’s life from forty thousand feet. At times, the book lacked the depths of life that many of Thompson’s fans want to read about. Overall, a good starting point for those wanting to delve into the life of Gonzo.
