I was a little hesitant to get pulled in to this one—it’s very solidly a middle grades book, IMHO. But it gets so so so good in the end.

- The world Killjoy built here is intriguing without too much going on to make it hard to follow. Whether the witches were training or hunting the unknown, I was rapt.
- I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, and hoping we get to explore Lorel’s relationships to her coven sisters more deeply, because that was the best bit.
