I did enjoy this book although I found the beginning a bit unsettling. It was fun to meet some immortals in South America and the characters were interesting and fun.

Another enjoyable addition to a series I adore. I was disappointed to see how some of the blogs I follow are growing tired of this series and have decided they are done. I get that this is addition number 25 after all and we won’t always love every new release Ms. Sands gives us. I, however, am not done. This is one of the series that I’m (most likely) going to see through to the end. Why? Because I know 8 out of 10 times I’m going to get a story that I love. One where I sit on the couch all day and do nothing but read the latest escapades of the characters in a world I enjoy. Ms. Sands books might have similar themes but she always delivers a story that helps me escape reality and leaves me smiling at the end.

I’ve said before in my reviews of this series that the books fall into one of two camps. They are either silly fun romps, true chick-lit, or they are more suspenseful and even a tad dark, with gripping plots that keep you on your toes wondering what happens next. This latest addition to the series was one of the suspenseful tales but it did manage to throw in some fun as well.

This was Domitian and Sarita’s story. I have to confess I don’t remember Domitian at all but after 25 books Ms. Sands has to be scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as finding a new Argeneau for each story. We have to be onto second cousins twice removed or something like that. That’s okay. I don’t need a long history with these characters to find their stories compelling. I did find it interesting that this was the first time that an Immortal was waiting to claim their lifemate. I guess it had never occurred to me what would happen if a vamp met their mate when they were a child. Had to agree that the private investigator was a bit creepy but compared to some of the other things that went down in this book easily overlooked. I liked this pairing, the couples complimented each other nicely and I enjoyed my time with them.

What really hooked me about this book, however, was all the progress with the mysterious Doctor that had been kidnapping Immortals. We finally got some serious progress on that storyline. I don’t want to give anything away but he is a serious scumbag and I can’t wait until they catch him. I kind of hope we return to this island though, there are some characters left here that I wouldn’t mind seeing again. This whole multi-book plot thread though has definitely breathed new life into this series. I’m looking forward to the next installment that comes out later this year. I need to know what happens next! I do hope we return to Canada again sometime, though. I miss the exploits of my favorite matchmaker in the series and would love to check in with what is going on up there.

I give it 3 stars only because I love this series so much.
But this book was quite flat and I was really disappointed as the previous book was much better and I thought the series would get a new kick upwards again.
But with this book it's going back down again.

Immortal Unchained was an exciting paranormal island adventure as only Lynsay Sands can tell it. Danger lurked around every corner as an immortal and a feisty cop tried to stay a step ahead of an evil doctor intent on doing them–and others–harm.

I really enjoyed this latest installment in Sands’ longstanding Argeneau series and had a lot of fun meeting Domitian and Sarita. There was quite a bit going on this time, especially in the latter half of the book as we learned more about Dr. Dressler and his experiments (think: the Island of Dr. Moreau). So the pace toward the end was faster than at the beginning, with lots of action and secrets coming out, but I also loved that earlier time we got one on one with Sarita and Domitian as they got to know each other. They ended up being a very sweet couple who looked out for each other and their loved ones fiercely.

I've had a lot of mixed feelings about this series. It started of great, then got very redundant, and now I'm back to really enjoying it again. When I heard about the hybrid creatures in the last book I thought maybe it was going to be a bit too crazy but I actually really liked how that bit was handled and I'd actually be interested in hearing more about them, especially Thorne. I'm kind of hoping he'll get his own story (maybe even a new series because I know it isn't next in this one.) I like Domitian and Sarita a lot. There was some of Lynsa Sands patented humor here that was greatly appreciated (something that I felt was missing from some of the previous books). Over all I really liked it.

Good read but take down could have been improved.

The Immortal population has been dealing with mysterious disappearances of their people for quite a while now. With the escape of the Notte twins Tomasso and Dante (from Runaway Vampire and Immortal Nights) we learned that a man by the name of Dressler is the one behind the abductions. Now, Lucian Argeneau has to figure out a way to infiltrate Dressler’s stronghold located on an island off Venezuela.

That’s where Domitian Argenis comes in. Domitian, a skilled and well-known chef, has been propositioned by Dressler many times over that past few months to come be his personal chef on his island. Lucian recognizes this proposition for what it is: a trap. But when Dressler also lures Domitian’s lifemate Sarita to the island, there is nothing that will stop him from going, regardless that he’s not a Hunter.

When Sarita receives a message stating that her grandmother has been injured, and is in need of care, Sarita leaves her life in Canada as a police officer and heads immediately to Venezuela. Instead of finding her grandmother, however, she’s waylaid by the mad Dressler and unwittingly pulled into his plans, whatever those plans may be. Now, she must work with the mysterious and delicious Domitian if they have any hope of escape.

Immortal Unchained marks a milestone in the series for Lynsay Sands in that it’s the 25th book! That’s impressive by any standards. I found that I overall enjoyed Immortal Unchained. There’s this undertone of The Island of Doctor Moreau running through it. And if you are at all familiar with this story, you will immediately understand the type of experiments Dressler has been conducting on his island, to a point.

I was a little thrown off in the beginning—with Domitian having already declared that Sarita is his lifemate and why exactly Sarita was on the island to begin with—I felt like I missed something somewhere.

But I liked the way Lynsay Sands builds up the specifics of the opening details in the way Domitian and Sarita get to know one another. They’re ‘getting to know you’ is a little unconventional in that they are definitely not meeting up for a coffee date. No, they end up being kept captive on a smaller more secluded island with little to no clothing between them, and that sets the tone for much sexytimes to ensue. But I liked that beyond the instant attraction they have towards one another, they actually take the time to talk and learn about one another. Domitian has lived a loooong life, and he has a very interesting history. And just because Sarita is a mere human, she’s still had many obstacles that have made her into the woman she is today. Also, everything we learn about Domitian and Sarita only lends itself to their strength and resilience to get off the island and save the people they care most about.

Immortal Unchained hit the mark for me more than the previous two books in the series. The big plus being, we get a lot more in regards to the missing Immortals story arc. But to that end, I will say things aren’t exactly tied up with a nice bow at the end, and it makes me very interested to see where the next book picks up.

I mean, it's not the worst thing I've ever read but it feels like she's trying to find new direction. Which is cool, but that didn't make this super engaging. It was missing a lot of elements that I usually like from her. Almost thirty books in like...12 years? Maybe it's time for her to take a break from the series and try something new? I feel like she has the fan base to successfully do that. Hey, this is already veering into sci-fi, that might be cool to see. Either way I wouldn't want this to be anyone's introduction to her writing because she hasn't done herself justice.
