Nice

Like the first in this series, it fills in some back story in the Valdemar universe We’ve heard about in other books, but never dove deep into. Not as strong as some other offerings, but the characters are starting to find their own voices here and present an interesting tale of “what happens after the tower fell”.

I did not like this one as much as I did the Black Gryphon but it was still very good.

Not as good as the first one, but that’s to be expected. Lackey sequels are like that. Here’s to hoping the third book ties it all together nicely!

Had lots of fun throughout. I wish we had more character arcs however.

One of the strengths of this book is the fact Lackey knows how to write a villain. She can get into their minds and show us the twisted thoughts these guys have. I love that we have two cultures trying to figure each other out trying to hold true to that which is them and have room to grow as they work together. It's nice to see fantasy that while it has very serious dire moments leaves room for our characters to have light humorous moments where they pick on each other. Out of all the books in this trilogy this is the one I always struggle with, the political heavy beginning makes me feel like I'm slugging my way through, until the action picks up to the later end of the book. I appreciate Lackey gives us characters who are middle aged or possibly brushing it, proving the young bucks arn't the only ones who can save the day.

Loveable characters are back
Spoilerwith kids!
Thoroughly enjoyable and an easy read, I was cheering for the main characters at the end and I loved how Lackey wrote Kechara <3
I actually think it is the strongest book of the three. It also helped that it was more mystery and suspense, which is one of my favourite genres. Also really quite fun/funny in some parts.

A nice take on civilisations meeting.

It is written for teens so keep that it mind. (The bad guys are bad, the good guys are good! Can do no wrong/right).
