The Housemaid

If you’re looking to get back into reading, or are in a slump, THIS is the book that will get you back in.

I was HOOKED from the beginning, the chapters are nice and short, and it’s a quick, easy read. My sister really likes Freida McFadden and my friend Aliyah lent this to me, telling me I HAD to read it. She was right!

I won’t say much to avoid spoilers, even though this book has been out for a while and I may be the last person on Earth to read it.

Millie Calloway is desperate to turn her life around. Fresh out of prison, she just needs someone to take a chance on her. Enter the Winchester family. Nina and Andrew are ridiculously wealthy and need a housemaid. Nina seems nice enough and is excited to get some help around the house and with her daughter.

However, once Millie moves in, things get weird. Nina flat out lies about messes that she’s made, gives Millie jobs to do and then denies it. Her daughter, Cecelia, is just as crazy. On top of all of this, the room Millie lives in is a teeny, tiny spot in the attic that locks only from the outside. She can survive this weird family long enough to get her fresh start, right?

Holy smokes, I couldn't put this book down. Every time I had to, all I wanted to do was go back to it and keep reading. The twist was mildly expected, I had guessed who the true villain was but not to the extent or why they were the villain. I was clenching every muscle in my body before I was even a quarter in, this author really knows how to flesh out characters and how to keep the reader guessing at every turn! I simply can't wait to get started on the next book in the trilogy!

While I enjoyed the second half of the book, the first half was honestly a struggle to get through. I also didn’t love most of the characters.

Fantastic book! The plot twist was GREAT and unexpected. Definitely a book that is hard to put down once it’s been started.
