There are SO many things wrong with this book. Forewarning, I have not read any other of these authors books so I can only hope that the awful things I read in this book have not been duplicated many times over but alas. I decided to read this book because I was excited to hear about a plus sized female MC in a romance/smut novel and as a not so petite woman myself I was excited for the representation. What I was not excited about was the blatant assault, manipulation, and misogyny that ran rampant throughout this book. The way, not only the female MC but the male MC's sister, are treated by their "love" interest in this novel is horrific. It's labeled as "fake dating" but in reality it's a privileged asshole on a power trip using his money and connections to blackmail the female MC into fake dating him. Which is disgusting. And then when she shows any sort of defiance, he literally sexually assaults her. You can deny that and say "she wanted it" and "she was attracted to him but 1. attraction doesn't = consent 2. she never gave him consent to violate her and 3. he actually brings up the blackmail as he tells her to take off her bikini top (doesn't matter if he doesn't look, still a violation of her body). This book was a masterclass in what kind of men to avoid forever, which of course the female MC does not do. But did I finish reading the book? yes. Because it wasn't poorly written (in terms of style and pacing and shit) it is just really messed up. I felt ok with reading this because I know that I can recognize toxic and horrifying behaviors shown in the men in this book in real life. What I'm more worried about are the girls who are impressionable and can't recognize the not okay behaviors. Men cannot be forgiven for horrific actions because they "have a sad backstory." Read this book at your own peril.
